How do I watch a downloaded movie on my TV?

I d/l a movie on my laptop and would like to watch it on my TV. I tried using an S video cable but couldn't get that to work. Do I need to d/l a certain type of software?

you need to enable the svideo port, (display manager) and then you need to use a resolution that is compatable, svideo can do 1024x768, and below.

what kind of video card do you have (ATI or NVIDIA)?

Being a moderator and all, why not just bump the other thread?

Anyway, this seems a little too obvious but have you checked your connections (S-video to TV) and then tried holding down the function button and pressing the F4 key? Doing so should successfully display the exact image that would be on your laptop screen onto the television.

If this doesn't help then list the specs of the computer and video card for further assistance.

I agree Manic - its got to be something so oblious that I am overlooking. Anyway - I can see the image on my TV (Panasonic Viesa plasma) but I cannot resolve the sound issue. I can play the movie, watch the movie, but can't hear the movie.

While toubleshooting I went into the control panel and changed the speakers settings to every possible setting with no success. SigmaTel Audio is my default device for sound playback. Thanks again.

S-Video doesn't support audio - what I did to resolve the same issue with my laptop was I used an S-Video cable for video support and this cable for audio support. As long as your television supports inputs for the left and right channel then it should work fine.

Although I'm sure plenty of other people could provide you with several other (and more convenient) solutions.

i used to use something similar to this:
http://www.amazon.com/HOSA-STEREO-3-...&s=electronics

its a 1/8th inch audio jack to RCA

but it has 2 female RCA, so you need an aditional RCA cable, but you can have it as long or as short as you need.

i currently use optical spdif.

Radio Shack carries audio jack to male RCA. The problem, of course, is low quality. I would get a decent card with fiberoptic audio and component video so the quality of what you're watching and listening to will be translated. If you can't do that....wait do you have a Mac or a PC?

If you have a Mac, in Q1 of 2007, Mac will be releasing something that's currently nicknamed the iTV. It's a little box that allows wireless streaming video and audio to your entertainment system. It has a built in power supply, USB, ethernet, and 802.11 wireless connect, HDMI, optical, component, and RCA hookups, and it even works with the Apple Remote. It's been rumored that it even has a built in HD and 802.11n connectivity. Cool stuff.

Well, the RCA will be just fine, I hardly notice the difference between optical spdif and copper, as long as you don’t run your wires around your speakers, you'll have no real problem.
