It's so the laggards who don't want to get rid of their analog sets until the government forces them to. SD will look like SD with all of its imperfections no matter what you do with it, and the only people who need NTSC tuners are grandma and grandpa out on the family farm who are going to wake up on February 17 next year and wonder why their TV stopped working, then get mad when they find out they have to buy a new one.

In canada, that wont happen until 2011. so as long as those laggards live along the border, they can watch the Mother Corp over rabbit ears.

But, we wont be able to watch your networks on our sets with out a STB & ATSC tuner I suppose. I'm really against the STB and the extra cost that the cable company is going to pass on to me.

I wouldn't discount an LCD. I bought the LG 42LB5D about 6-8 months ago, and it is absolutely fucking wonderful. It's a 42" 1080p LCD HDTV and it is awesome. It has an extremely wide viewing angle - just as wide as a plasma. 178 degree viewing angle - that's reeeeally close to 180! You can find them for around $1100 w/ shipping now.
