ISP blocking P2P Progams?
Don't know if anyone can help, but I think my ISP is blocking me from using filesharing proggies such as kazaa lite, shareaza, ares etc. They all seem to have stopped working, and the firewall isn't blocking them. Shareaza told me I was behind a firewall even though I had allowed it access.
The progs just freeze up... any ideas on how to get round this Plus my ISP is NTL (cable) and are they legally allowed to stop me using bandwith that I pay for if this is the case?

Im not real sure because i dont use them but i think most file sharing programs you can change what port they use. I think all your isp would do would be to block ports that are commonly used for stuff like that. Try changing the port to something else.
If that dosnt work i have no idea what to do. Yes they are legaly allowed to do that... they are basicly allowed to do anything they want. Same reason why most isps wont tell you exactly how much bandwidth your allowed to use. If you start using tons and tons of bandwidth they will just send you a nasty letter threating to shut you off or bill you more. |

Actually there are several ISP (Bell I think?) that had recently changed their servers that as a result, begin to block out certain P2P applications. I'll see if I can find the information again.

Actually, they can also block by traffic, not just by port, so those programs that use the same protocol, can be blocked, encrypting bit torrent can get around this, but the other cant.

The thing is, i've tried torrents, but they all seem to fail around the 80%-90% mark and always fail when I try to re-download. It has always been quicker in the past to use a P2P, don't get me wrong i'm not using 100's of gigs a month I just get the occasional mp3 or DVD/AVI file.
I'll try changing the port and see if it works, but the progs just seem to freeze as soon as I load them now.... therefore I figured it wasn't just one prog that had bugs etc but they ALL do the same...
