I think my mobo is bad
Came home this afternoon and there was some message about hard disk failure or some bullshit. I messed around with it and moved the IDE cable the HDs are connected to where the CD and DVD are and left the IDE cable to the DVD and CD disconnected. The computer boots up now but I don't see my second HD. A new mobo for my Dell from overstock.com is 38 bucks. Is my diagnosis correct before I spend 38 bucks plus shipping?

try connecting only one IDE device to the primary controler using a new known good cable. If it doesn't work plug into the second controler and see if it works there. If it works in the second and not the first odds are the controller doesn't work.

I'll dig around in the garage for another IDE cable. But wouldn't the fact that my primary HD works on the secondary IDE controller indicate that the cable is good and the controller is bad? Damn I hate that I'm so cheap I won't spend 38 bucks for a new motherboard.
