Shipping a desktop computer

I'll be moving soon, and I have a desktop computer.
I can't really afford moving, so i figure I'll just send 2 boxes of the bare minimum..
However, i'm gonna need my PC. Does anyone know of a cheap but safe way to send your PC several states away?

USPS, insured. pack it yourself with lots of bubblewrap

Number one rule: DO NOT TRUST ANYONE WITH YOUR HARD DRIVES BUT YOURSELF.

Take them out of the computer, and put them in a safe place with lots of padding etc. Technically they should be OK because the heads aren't moving at all, but any jarring (really, a moving company will not care at all about your stuff) could lead to data loss. When I moved recently, I packed mine in a box with paper and bubble wrap and just left them on the floor in the backseat of my car.

My hard drives are A-OK four months later.

Drives and cards both. Cards get wanged badly if the box is jarred vertically.

Record the current slot locations for fewer issues when you reassemble.
