DVD-RW won't recognize/burn DVD-R
My 3 month old HP zd8000 has HPs best available DVD burner. I'm assuming it should be able to burn all types of DVDs, correct? I can't get it to recognize DVD-Rs. Normally i'm able to put in any old CD and am able to drag and drop files into the drive to be recorded. However when I put in my DVD-R, all burning options go away and am unable to drag and drop files to the drive for burning - it gives me a copying error every time.
Is it something I'm doing wrong, or is my top of the line computer REALLY unable to burn DVD-Rs? I need to be able to burn both data and video DVDs. Thanks! |

Actually this has nothing to do with Windows. Windows can drag and drop to DVDs just fine. I do it almost daily at work.
The problem is that the drive is a DVD+R/DVD+RW, it makes no mention of supporting DVD-R or DVD-RW. Yes, there is a difference. Make sure you aren't trying to write to a DVD-R or DVD-RW disk. |

Ahhh, I am indeed wrong, I was basing my statement off that support page that (curiously) made specific mention of CD-R/CD-RW/DVD+R/DVD+RW discs and not a single thing about DVD-R/DVD-RW support. With major OEMs, it is typical for them to have drives that are for the DVD+ standards only.
