Storing Mac files on a Windows server?

Are there any issues with storing (& more importantly working from) Mac files stored on a Windows server (2003)? The I.T. guy thinks I should move all my files to the server and work off of that. We also occasionally use outside sources if we get uber busy and the idea is it would be easy for whomever to log into the server and get whatever files they need. Currently we have Apple Remote Desktop running and the one outside source we regularly use has access to my computer and files (this has worked in the past and I don't see the need for change).

I'd rather not do it but I'm looking for a little more ammo to back me up. Are there any interoperability issues (will windows fry a quark/Indd/whatever file?) or anything else I can use to sway the powers-that-be to my side?

Thanks!

No issue with the files themselves.

You just need to make sure that the services for connecting to the server via SMB protocol are available.

Only challenge will be getting to the files during the server's brief periods of uptime.

Thanks. I'll be here all week. Try the chicken.

An issue that we've had is that the file system that Apple uses allows many more characters than that of the Windows NTFS file system. We had issues writing quite a few files to the Windows server. We were forced to change the name of the files so that Windows would allow them to be copied over.
