Trouble installing XP Upgrade - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

The XP CD wants proof that I have Windows already on the machine.
I opened a new copy of W98se and went through most of a minimum install.
Then started the XP install. XP asked for a CD that it accepts for the upgrade.
I gave it the new W98se CD but it does not accept it.
It should be enough to start the XP install.

Any thoughts to help me install XP on this brand new machine?

Never mind, I guess :-)

I tried an old illegal copy of XP on a CD and the new legal XP accepted it and started the 'upgrade'. Go figure. I broke the seal on a new copy of Win98se for nothing.
