Computer HD
So i go into work and one of the office computers is making alot of noice. So i take the cover off and the HD is ticking. Ive herd people say this happens alot right b4 the hd dies. Ohh ya you gotta turn it on and off 2-3 times to get it to boot off the drive. what you guys think?
HD Dieing on me? If so i got one sitting here ready to have windows installed on it. |
Almost definitely, yes! The ticking can be caused by a couple of different things, but all of them spell a soon-to-be dead hard drive. Sorry... :-/
|
yep the one hard drive that i had die ticked for about a week before it finaly died on me.
|
take the hard drive out, mount it in a working computer, copy the files off anyway you can to save them, if you have a program like Norton ghost, you can try to go drive to drive with a fresh drive, this will make a copy of the hard drive, you can take the copied drive and place it back in and boot as if nothing ever happened. If you don’t have Norton ghost, there are other free programs out there that do the same thing, but I don’t have any name off the top of my head.

Heh. My secondary has been ticking for months now. I backed it up but it has cleared up. It only ticks occasionally now.
But to be sure, back it up ASAP! |
it could use a fresh install anyways. ill just copy my documents off of it and reinstall windows on the new drive.

Hehe, when I first built my machine I swore I'd reformat tri-annually. It's been over a year and I'm still working off the original install :)
