how to make all google text ad's disappear
incase if anyone is getting tired of them:
Download and install Mozilla Firefox. Install the Adblock extension. https://update.mozilla.org/extension...info.php?id=10 Restart Firefox to complete Adblock's installation. Go to the Tools > Extensions menu, highlight Adblock, and click the Options button. In the New Filter: input box, paste this: http://*.googlesyndication.com/* Ensure that in the Adblock preferences window, it is set to Remove ads, not Hide ads. Never see another Google ad! |
Then buy another stick of memory. Adblock is a leaky bastard. :)

Launch FF and check your task manager for FF memory usage. Browse for a couple hours and check again. You can quit and start FF again but it's slightly annoying. |

oh, ouch.... but considering half of the sites i go to use google ad's i'll give it a try... i'll see how it goes :D but thanks for the heads up  |
I love Adblock with all of my body, including my peepee :)
|
I like to believe I have memory to spare - but when I leave Pandora running the entire time ( http://pandora.com ) I can get ~210xxxK of memory usage after 8 hours with Adblock Plus. Love it anyway!

I've been using Firefox with adblock for a year or two so this info interested me.
With ad block enabled every time I click on refresh page memory usage goes up hundreds of bytes. Then, with Adblock disabled, every time I click on refresh page, memory usage goes down a few hundred bytes. Tried adding "http://*.googlesyndication.com/*" but it did not block text. Images were already being blocked. |

I have no reason to block reasonable ads. That's how google makes there money and I support that. As long as they're tasteful and not non-intrusive. Pop-up ads are an example of ads I don't support or tolerate...
I even enjoy ads that are geared towards me. If you are selling something I want to buy, then let me know! Google ads try to do this and that's appreciated, as well... Ultimately, ads aren't bad things. They just need to be done well... |
I had no idea it was so leaky. Certainly explains a lot. :(

Nope. Not for me. Firefox v.1.5.0.1 Adblock 0.5 d3 nightly 42 |
I'll take the memory leak without having to see all the annoying ads everywhere.
|
No doubt adblock is user-friendly, but for more flexibility without the leaks, try <a href="http://www.privoxy.org/user-manual/index.html">Privoxy</a> or <a href="http://www.proxomitron.info/">Proxomitron</a>.

My only problem with adblock is that it kept me from viewing movie clips in FF.

you can select content to unblock with the adblock menu, click on adblock on the little bottom right bar of the browser |
Adblock is leaky, as said before, and no longer developed.
Adblock Plus is the replacement for it. Quote:

I just removed AdBlock and installed AdBlock Plus.
I think the memory problem is gone. Refreshing the page many times does not increase memory usage. Not much of a test, I guess, but this version does seem better in this respect. Will try this program for awhile because it is easier for me to figure out how to use compared to the programs suggested by cyrnel. |
