Boom?
I've got a X800 XL in my box (AGP) that requires its own plug from the power supply. A long time ago, I used to have a problem where when I reboot it would shout that my video card didnt have the power plugged in, even if it did. This problem went away (seemingly by itself) -- the workaround when it happened was to just turn off the PSU, unplug the video card, replug the video card, and turn the PSU back on.
Last night, I was in the middle of playing a game and the screen went black. Restarted a few times and it wouldn't boot into windows. Let it go. Woke up this morning and checked, and now device manager is saying that my "device cannot start" and right-click display shows "Default Monitor on " with no video card listed. I'm worried -- its a $300 video card and it's spring break -- I won't be able to play video games. :( I have a 420W PSU, with 2 magnetic, 2 optical, plug for video card, 3 plugs for case fans.. some of its daisy chained together and I don't know for sure if the PSU is enough .. I tried unplugging all the case fans, and still a problem.. Any idea what this could be? It doesn't really seem like I cooked the video card, although I could have. |
Do you have another system that you could test the video card in? If so, try that and see if the other computer recognizes the card.
Another thing, is the fan on the video card running or is the whole card showing no life? |
I had the same thing happen to my ATI card a year or so ago. The plug on the card itself went bad, and I had to send the vid card back... For your sake I hope that thing is still under warranty.

Turns out it was my power supply.. the problem got worse and worse (with random peripherals shutting off) until I got a new PSU. Problem solved.
