Burning an Audio CD---Max. minutes are?

I have been making some audio CDs of spoken word radio programs.
Using the audio signals on a tape recording and then transferring
them to MP3 via "Total Recorder" program on my computer. When I
have enought program to fill up a CD I burn the disc with a burn
program. I can put a Maximum of 80 minutes on a CD,as it says on
the standard CD,but someone told me I am doing it all wrong and
several hours of audio program can be put on a CD or DVD using the Program called "NERO".I am familiar with 2 hours of video on
a normal DVD but what might be the maximum if just audio was put
on it? (NERO is $49.00 and Total Recorder is $11.95 so there is
a big difference there as to cost.)

The maximum amount of minutes of audio is based on the CD you are using. 80 minutes of audio, burned onto an audio cd to play in any cd player, is the normal amount.

I believe your friend may be thinking of burning the audio onto the cd in an encoded and compressed audio type such as MP3, AAC, WMA, OGG, etc. When it is compressed you can surely put hours upon hours of audio on to a cd. The only problem is that it will not be able to be read by a cd player. It can only be played in a device such as your computer, or something that can read the compressed audio file. They do sell car steros, home stereos, cd/mp3 players that can read cd's like this.

Nero will just help you get stuff onto a cd. It can burn audio cd's (normal cd's of music/books on cd) that can be played in any cd player, and it can burn cd's full of data and files that can only be read in computers and devices were created to read those cd's

MeanSpleen: Thanks for the reply. I will keep using my TOTAL RECORDER.
I see where Tucows Software website rated Total Recorder higher than
the NERO program.
