Are users allowed to delete their posts yet?
I was wondering if that still was a problem. Or if there was a reason for not enabling it. And yes I am aware you can erase one by alerting a moderator.
|
There has never been the option to delete your posts.
If you can do that to yours you could do it to other people. |
That doesn't make sense. In the old TFP, users could SUCCESSFULLY delete their OWN posts without affecting others.
|
oldtimer: not, it's not a bug, I'm assuming that there's a reason that it wasn't enabled on the new incarnation, sorry.
red: there's a feature in the bb software that allows for the deletion of posts by author, if enabled, that's what oldtimer's asking about. there's no way to delete other's posts w/o being a mod on up. |
Yeah, I thought so too. Thanks for replying. Anyway to talk to Hal about this one?
|
you're welcome to contact him via the usual channels pm etc. but I'm betting he'll just tell you that we don't want it on, and leave it at that.
|
I believe the reason we do this is if you delete your own post (thread you've started) you will also kill every single reply that has been added to the thread.
Basically once a thread takes off it has a life of its own and would be unfair for the starter to arbitrarily kill it one day. Also everyone who replied to the thread would have their post counts reduced. |
well, post count is not an issue anymore.
but cant you block deletion of starter threads and allow deletion of subsequent ones? |
That wouldn't work either, cause all posts subsequent to yours would be deleted. I recomment editing your post and inserting something like "I changed my mind".
|
Yeah, Daval I knew about that too. That is probably the only instance where a user can not delete his own post. My request applies to the ones that aren't starter threads. If it is too much trouble or has any major disadvantages by being used, by all means someone post. I've just narrowed it down too letting the moderators actually feel like moderators instead of just skimming topics or waiting for a pm, they'll get to do more work.
