Accessing old account

I used to a very active member here under the name Mephisto. However, I seem to have forgotten my password. Unfortunately, the email address to which this account is linked is no longer active.

For reference the email address was logged to the domain "netoma.com", which has expired.

Can one of the Administrators contact me and let me know how I can change my password to a new one? I am happy to answer any questions as to my posting past to prove my identity.

Cheers,

Mephisto2 (actually, the real, original Mephisto)

I'd like to think I'm better than the original Plan9. I certainly hope he never returns and attempts to reclaim his username.

Yes, it sure is.

The original account was setup with an email address on the netoma.com domain. Unfortunately I let that lapse, so now that I've forgotten my password there is no way for me to get in.

I can answer any questions you may have about my posting history.

I used to post a fair bit in the Politics board. I had several political disagreements with Ustwo (is he still here?). I often fielded questions as to why I was so interested in American politics, though I wasn't from there (I can tell you where I was born and lived, which is different from where I now live).

I once posted a query to the Guns forum asking honestly, as an anti-gun person, why folks loved them so much. I later posted that I had visited a pistol club and quite enjoyed it. Was an interesting thread.

I can even PM you my birthday, and I'm pretty sure that must be recorded somewhere as I got a fair few "Happy Birthday" messages on that particular date.

And so on.

well ... all the info you can offer up as to your genuineness can be acquired through your current account simply browsing through the old Mr. Mephistos profile. You have to do a better job of proving to me you are not trying to sell me viagra or knock off shoes at half price ...

I didn't know you could ascertain the domain of the user's email address that way.

How exactly can I prove my bona fides?

I could tell you my real name, via PM of course, but I'm not sure that is something I shared in the past. Tell me how to convince you.

I'm not sure how feasible this is, (now that I think about it, it's wholly unreasonable) but my initial suggestion for you was:

to contact a mod to politely ask to change the original Mr Mephisto's email address to the new one in which you would provide, and then you would only be re-granted the title of Mr Mephisto once you activated the link found in the new e-mail you were to receive.

The hitch is, I could, in essence, do the same thing, if I just decided to adopt some old username's identity (for whatever reason). My plan's not very technical. Sorry I brought it up.

The other option would be to rename the old Mephisto as Mephisto Senior and rename Mephisto 2 and Mephisto.

New user, same name.

Totally hermit crab'd!

It's been done.

It's been done.

I'd prefer my old account back.

It's been inactive for quite some time. I stopped posting not long after Bush won his second Presidency. Started again a bit around the Obama election. And I then I dropped by again not that long ago to find that I couldn't remember my password.

It's not as if there's anything super-secret in there. I just want to keep my old posting history etc.

Maybe I should just keep trying to use old passwords. I'm bound to remember it eventually!

I'm around too today if need be. From what I see, you're who you say you are. Glad you came back to us.

I think we've got your issues fixed now. Let me know if there's a problem. Or if you want to switch back to the old username. Either one works for me.
