Google
I recently googled my username, which is also an email address and alias on a few other sites, and right at the top, was a bunch of threads from this forum. Is there anyway to eliminate TFP from google's indexing? seems kind of annoying if a potential employer/girlfriend/stalker/etc manages to get my standard handle, and google it.....

Change handles. Manually delete your posts. Restrict your posts to forums not viewable by the general public. Post anonymously. Switch your username here (this seems to be the best one as it will be retroactive and eventually replace Google's caches.)

I second the last one. Using a usernale that is NOT a totally unique made up word will make it almost impossible for google to find you.
My username doesn't show up on the first six pages of google results, even though I use it at half a dozen different fora. |
Change your username. Have one that is unique to your life in various fora.
I've made a point of doing this myself. |
TFP will not eliminate itself from Google. Like others have said, if this is an issue for you you'll want to change your username. Send me a PM and we can talk about it.

Google gives us 99% of our traffic. Think different. Wait.. that's Apple.
|
Someone here has the googlebot trained well. Often a thread will hit google search results within a day after being posted here. I'd wager this one will be searchable by tomorrow afternoon.

We're all here to help, and if you've got a problem and need a solution, not much would make us happier than to find a solution that works for everyone. And the chances of us removing ourselves from Google's indexing lies somewhere between the banana on my desk sudden gaining sentience and Rob Schneider winning an Oscar. |

Its already there. |
I just did a "Find more posts by __________". It's not all posts in Wayside and Titty Board, but there are a healthy percentage of them. I wonder if he just got a new girlfriend, who knows his username, and he is getting nervous about that. Heh.

the way i see it, this place is a public domain on a private website.
its like walking into a shop in public. dont expect anonymity, because quite frankly it doesnt exist in cyberland. if you're not comfortable posting something personal or afraid that if you posted something that it may not get you in the running for the next presidential elections, then hold off from pressing that 'post' button. |
Aaah, another case of porn destroying our lives.
*does Google search* Great, I'm the only Crompsin on the planet. Never thought about the "boring username" tactic. Huh. ... Also: Staff, Mods, Russian Linguists: What's this? >>> HUH? <<< |

Just wondering. It's a mish-mash of all sorts of garbage.
|
To be fair to the OP, I seem to recall that back in the mists of time when he posted, TFP was not indexed by Google. Wasn't the opening to Google a more recent development?
|
We've been indexed by Google for at least a few years now, though I don't remember exactly when we started. I think it was around the time Fark got rid of the Boobies links, which was a rather long time ago.

You're famous!

I JUST NOW after however long you've had it changed, finally grokked your avatar. LOL
|
I haven't heard "grokked" used outside the pages of a book. You're officially a bigger dork than me.
|
Wow.... Thanks for all the replies. Yeah I'm a frequent browser but not a frequent user. And the issue i've got is that it's my IM handle on a few clients that coworkers now have, and I do a few other things with it that make me pretty easy to track online.
I'll PM the admin who suggested a username change. Thanks tons. |
