Tilted Science?
Science is a big part of modern society, and there really isn't a good spot to talk about it on TFP.
While many posts about Science itself can go into Politics, many scientific issues are rather tangental to the world of politics. Knowledge seems somewhat reasonable, but it is apparently for asking questions from others with expertese, not discussing Science news. Philsophy works for some things (like cosmology etc), but not for others. In particular, I noticed a link between two studies that had made it to the popular media, and wanted to comment on it. It really doesn't fit anywhere. The post I wanted to make: Quote:

I agree with Yakk. Months and Months ago I made a similar suggestion but didn't present it very well. Other conversations that could go in Tilted Science:
*The Hygens Probe *Death of the Hubble *Nanotech in Modern Warfare ...and so on. Please give us Tilted Science. |
I second (or third) that suggestion. Surely there are other forums here and elsewhere in which we can address our science related questions and discussions, but it would be nice to have a forum here that we can call home.

Guys, it's always been the same here at the TFP.
Tilted investing was added because people constantly posted money questions in tilted living. A couple science posts are great, but it needs to be a constant flow. My advice, choose a forum that supports science and always post your science articals there. See if discussion develops. Explore whether people start posting their own science articals in kind. In other words, let it grow naturaly, and if the need begins to show itself through a constant stream and healthy discussion volume, come back and make the case here at tilted suggestions. |
Knowledge?

Knowledge is a good place for this stuff, as is General Discussion. Most of these articles are geared towards an average reader with a casual interest in the topic. I like to think that most TFP members are intelligent enough to be able to have a conversation about these topics, and when the topics are regarding recent events or findings, I think they can fit quite nicely into General Discussion. I'm sure plenty of people would be willing to discuss the Huygen's probe there.
