More smilies/emoticons?
I know this topic/suggestion is bound to piss people off that don't like 'em, but I can't help it. I like smilies. I find them extremely useful in conveying emotions online and I find often that they're just the thing to diffuse a tense situation. They just bring levity to online conversations.
Anyway, I see we have 19 smilies available now. And hey - they're all great fuckin' smilies. They're the cream of the smiley crop. Would it be extremely taxing on TFP's servers if we added a bunch of new smilies? Here are some smilies from one of my favorite sites. Granted, some of these are overboard. And I don't know if they're compatible with vB. I also found this old post with some suggestions that might be compatible with vB. Before you say it, I know smilies are a low priority when compared with other TFP issues. I also know they will always be a low priority because...well, I can't see smilies being raised on the priority list. I was just curious if it was a big deal to add more, and whether it would put a dent in the TFP server. |
You could always save them yourself and use the [img] tags.
You get your expressions across and no harm towards the server. |

:D It's definitely a bit more work to do so, but yes, that is a solution, thanks for suggesting it. I'd still like to hear back from one of the mods or admins about it... |
Cool, it'd be good to hvae more smilies as well. i guess i'll try that img tag sometimes as well.
Often in my ambivalence, i use 3 to 4 different smiles in a row to try to get the full experssion across... So it'd be good to have others like these.... http://home.iprimus.com.au/hlinge/starwars.gif http://home.iprimus.com.au/hlinge/beatass.gif http://home.iprimus.com.au/hlinge/samurai.gif http://home.iprimus.com.au/hlinge/FU.gif :D |
What a lot of people do is load them onto a Boomspeed account and just link them when necessary. There's really no way that adding new smilies can be considered until we get the good server set up again. After that, if we have some time, we might stick a few in. The problem with the ones I see in the post above mine is the lack of relevance (How often are you going to use a Star Wars smiley?) and stuff like the smiley flipping you off; the reason for not wanting that one should be obvious.

Thanks, kind sir, that's the kind of answer I was looking for. I agree with not having a middle-finger smiley. The one I posted was just my poor attempt at making a joke. :)

i was never a fan of the big long lists of pointless smileys... i don't like it when people carry a conversation with just abbreviations, net speak and emoticons... it's a challenge to you to be creative with words instead
