How about shutting down the TB a few times a year?

Lots of people come her for the TB. I know the rookies don't get to see it until they have participated a minimum amount. I would imagine there are lots of members who post just enough to activate their TB access and then lurk from then on. It seems since the TB has been temporarily shut down there has been an infusion of fresh members and ideas in the non-TB forums. Thus, I propose several times a year shutting down the TB for a week or two at a time.

i dunno, in one of the other threads Halx gave a whole history of how this site got started. I get the impression the TB is central to the forum's appeal. I'm no lurker, and I spend a lot of time on a lot of other boards, but when it was up, the TB was always my first port of call.

Maybe up the number of posts you need before you can access it? That way you circumvent the people who just come for the stupidly high amounts of free porn.

I miss the TB. I've literally forgotten how to find porn without this place. I'm lost.

Yeah, much as I enjoy the conversation, admiration of the female form is what got me here, and I like to be able to intersperse commentary with eye candy when possible.

I understand and appreciate that Hal a) can do whatever he likes with TFP - it's his baby and b) there was an excellent reason to shut down the whole Errogenous zone for bandwidth conservation during the server move, but I miss the Titty Board and would love to have it back.

Just how much are we willing to do to encourage users to come to discuss more than the TB?

Are we willing to force someone to visit other forums at the expence of those that are participating, and enjoy the TB?

See, we already have mods encouraging people to leave the TB. Our mods are making sure that post counts are not the sole item on which one maintains participation in the TFP.
Our mods are looking at our post's quality, not just the number. I'd think it's safe to say that if one had 1000 posts of "i'd hit it" that person would have recieved a challenge to discover the rest of the board.

I imagine it's very difficult for Halx, and our mods, to decide where the line is drawn between encouraging users, and forcing them to behave as we want.

Though I think it's good you are looking to improve this place, and I support you for it, I think shutting the TB down regularly is redundant to measures we have in place. I also think it would make those of us, like you, that participate suffer the loss of something we do appreciate.

People don't get access to the Erogenous Zone just by posting. There is no "magic number" at all. If a person is given access to the Erogenous Zone, that means that one of the mods has seen that 1) they are eligible (i.e. someone will not be even considered before a certain point) and 2) their posts are generally quality posts that contribute to the forum overall.

For this reason there are people with quite a few posts that still have not been granted access to the more personal and sensitive areas of the forum (Erogenous Zone, Exhibition, etc). So, I think that shutting down the Erogenous Zone periodically is unnecessary because of the work that goes into giving someone access in the first place.

Thanks for the suggestion though - they're always welcome :)

Interesting method - and not a bad idea at all. When did this take affect? I've been a on again/off again reader/looker/occasional poster of the forums - Tittie Board or not - and I had just assumed the board was closed for the moment. Perhaps I'm just not cool enough to have access yet. :D

I'm glad you don't take the post count approach exclusively - it can only lead to spamming and lack of participation once access is granted. Good stuff.

I had no idea the Mods encouraged members to explore other areas of the forum. Thanks.

Wombat, if you don't currently have access to the TB it's quite probably because of this: http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...threadid=36543.

I try, but sometimes if a woman's hair is really bad and she asks me what I think, I'll still tell her it looks nice. ;)

That would be interesting - I've never seen that one. Do you have a link to it? Or was that back in the v3 days?

Thanks! That made for very interesting reading! I never realised this place was only 18 months old - wow! I'm impressed at what a great place it is.

zer010gic 01-12-2004 07:58 AM

That history is so cool I was accually one of the ones that came in through fark I thought I started early but did not know it was that early. I guess I was a lurker way to long but I am trying to change and make this more of a home.

Dire Baka 01-20-2004 05:20 PM

I was a farker that came here and was addicted to the TB and I stayed that way for a good few months... then I started looking around at some of the other boards that were here and decided that I should probably start visiting the other boards. The board resetting kinda messed me up though.

So now I am just kinda poking around every once and a while

Sully907 01-23-2004 04:14 PM

yes people should have to participate and a bit and than get the TB as a kind of reward :)

floydthebarber 01-23-2004 04:39 PM

I signed up during the big move. Having access to the TB when it came back was a nice surprise.
