Can't we already do this in mIRC? I thought that's what "voice" was for and "de-voice" the opposite?

no, IRC is text based only.
Voice (mode +v) is for when the channel is muted (mode +m). Only those people with voice, halfops, or ops may communicate. If you don't have one of those three (the symbols are +, %, and @ respectively), you will find that when you try to type to the channel, you will receive a message. Only you will see the message and your own typing, no one else will. De-voice is when someone's voice is taken away (mode -v). |
