MySmilies vB (v3.8.0)
I thought TFP had this already. But when I went to play with it today, it's not there...
MySmilies vB (v3.8.0) - vBulletin.org Forum This hack puts the control of the smilies on the users. It lets any user (that you give permission to) upload or modify the smilies that he can use. These are not the smilies that vb uses, these are user-customized smilies. The smilies that you already have in place are preserved and are still used. But users may upload their own smilies for their use, and they are kept separate from the standard forum smilies. For users:

Thank you for the suggestion, however I specifically intend to prevent the TFP from becoming overrun with smilies. My greatest fear (ok, not greatest...) is to see any entire conversation conducted through smilies and snarky images.
You know that Billy Joel song Just the Way You Are? "I don't want clever conversation, I never want to work that hard." Well Billy Joel would hate it here because that's what I want. If you have any smilies that you think would be appropriate to add to the forum's library, send 'em to me. I try to use discreet ones that express simple things and are not distracting from the visual flow of a conversation. |

Bummer.
It's super convenient. Oh well. |
The more the better but that's just me.

I think smilies are awesome, when used with restraint. But I see where Hal is coming from; on some boards discussion is usurped by dialog amongst the smilies. I reckon Hal is hedging on the side of caution.
I don't know why I bothered to reply, as I don't have anything constructive to add. *insert deadbeat smiley* |
Woods - upload them elsewhere and use the [ I M G ] tag to post them.

I do this already.

The ImageShack add-on makes it much easier but because my life's all about short-cuts, the smiley hack would have been cool. I'll be ok. Don't worry about me... :p |
