tilted, tilted, titled, tilted, tilted, tilted, tilted, tilted, tilted, etc.

...it's a little redundant imho lol. When I first joined, having to scan over the word 'tilted' in forum titles was a little headache-y. And it still is. Maybe it'd be cleaner with just, 'Music,' 'Politics,' 'Life,' etc.? I think having 'Tilted' used in the category headers would be fine though.

Also, how about a 'Health, Mind & Body' forum? It seems general health topics are scattered through Discussion, Sexuality and Life. Having them all in one forum might be a nice way to keep things clean? Some people may enjoy playing doctor by reading through and replying to threads of this nature. Granted, having the staff move all those threads would suck for them.

We used to have a Tilted Health or Fitness or some such - but it was underused and therefore removed.

Also if memory serves it was merged into tilted life, and those sorts of questions are to be directed there. If you find one in another forum I don't believe it would be inappropriate to ask a mod to move it.

Aren't you guys assigned to particular forums to moderate? Wouldn't it be your gig to move the threads to where they belong instead of relying on members to let you know? I mean, if I'm not a moderator, then I'm definitely not going to act like one! It's just a suggestion I had is all.

Have you noticed the little red and white triangle under everyone's avatar? That's the "report post" button. If someone says something you feel is questionable, report it. If you feel a thread should be in another section, and it's bothering you, report it.

This board relies upon members to report indecent posts, PMs, blog entries, wall posts, and so on.

Just because we're here on the board every day, reading everything we can find, doesn't mean that we will catch everything. We're not likely to notice or care that someone is asking a weightloss question in general discussion. But if it bothers you, by all means report it with a note and we'll move it.

I just caught a spammer... no one reported him. it was simple but the moment you read it it's a spammer.

the point of us here is to not be like other forums. and to that point we don't want our members to be like they are at other forums.

the same reason why Mc isn't in front of every single product at McDonald's.

woodsie,

no particular moderator is assigned to any particular forum. we are just regular members here like everyone else here. we like posting as much as keeping an eye out for this place. at the same time, we dont catch everything or get to read every post and rely on our members to help us out.

like GG said, if you come across anything you think we need to look out for, then report it. it will help flag it up for us for one of the moderators to look into it. we pride ourselves on our members being the extra hand around here.

and for the record, not everything starts with a Mc at McDonalds

Really.. what is defensive here? You made one suggestion and you were informed that we tried it once and it was merged into Tilted Life.

But you go on to harp about our branding scheme, which was calmly explained. I'd like to add more to it though. Our forum naming scheme is designed to let people know what they should expect to be reading when they open the forum. This makes them bland in and of themselves, so we add the brand name to indicate our own little twist. We'd like to be viewed as a different kind of forum.

Then you comment on moderation methods, which were then calmly explained. I'd also like to add a bit more. Since the TFP's inception over 7 and a half years ago, it has been a self-policed community. Moderators exist for when administrative action needs to be taken (can't give EVERYONE delete/edit/ban permissions) but we rely on the community to bring various violations to our attention.

If you think these reasonings are off, come back with counter-points instead of telling us we're defensive. A good suggestion should stand up to justification.

Now that is a nice response lol. Thank you.

I don't see these health-related threads as inappropriate or questionable, therefore clicking on the 'little red and white triangle' is pointless, along with the attitude I've been shown. I made a suggestion. Obviously some mods got on the defense. I won't be suggesting again.

And yes, McD's doesn't have 'Mc' in front of everything because it's redundant. And that's my point lol.

Good day!

And rude.

Do you really think I'm a stupid ass? Do you really think I don't know what 'report post' means and what it's intended for? I fucking reported a bestiality image of an octopus up a girl's ass that remained posted for 3 1/2 hours. No one else reported it, because as soon as I did, Baraka Guru (or whatever,) got right on it. You're welcome!

I'm glad you're willing to share your viewpoint with me on this matter.
I don't view you as stupid.
I didn't realize you had reported a bestiality post in the past.

Though I do recommend you edit your post there to remove the insults before someone else decides to give you an infraction for it.

I've always had a question about this. Do alot of people report things in threads? In other forums (which are NOT tfp) I never used a report button, I always felt like a "rat" or a tattle-tale. I always let Mods, who were picked because of their ability to make good judgments, decided if the post was against the rules or not. To boil it down, Halx makes the rules, Mods enforce them, I try not to break them. I never thought about it beyond that. I guess I just didn't want to try to step higher than the totem pole allows.

No, not enough people use the report function.

It's not there to rat on someone, it's there to alert. Maybe just let staff know that a thread is starting to get heated. Maybe to alter to a potentional underage or spammer. Maybe to say,"Clean up on aisle 4!" when something just goes off the deep end.

woods, I'd like to take the time to say before you accuse of being defensive, take a look yourself, since your posture in the posts are much more defensive than any of my explanations here. just an observation. and while you may say, "but i wasn't being snarky, just sarcastic!" remember, there's no body language here, just words on a computer screen.

I'm not a mod, but it seems to me reporting a post via the report button, when it is clearly in the wrong forum is perfectly acceptable. It's also not like someone automatically gets in trouble for you reporting the post.

Helping the mods keep things organized around here certainly isn't pointless.

I was always under the impression that the members helping the mods when they can was an important part of this forum.

hektore that's a good example that I forgot to put up.

Many people use the New Posts function and they don't have any idea what forum something is posted in, this included staff.

I try very hard to comb through the first page so that I can move things over at elast every other day.

You can also think of it this way, this place is as nice as it is not only because people come here with different thought and can respect different viewpoints, but also because people care enough about the community to get involved. This means, getting involved in discussions to reporting posts for staff attention.

That's all that it does, it brings it to our attention. Sometimes you'll get a thank you from a mindful staff member for taking the initiative, sometimes you'll not hear anything back. Either way it's a good tool to use.

Maybe we should add a "The Report Post Button" section to the intro & rules threads.

Of course maybe there already is one, and I've simply not read/remembered it.

*runs off to find the new users thread*

What happens when you hit that button here? Do you have to fill anything out or does it just raise a flag in the admin side of things?

Perhaps I'm strange but I enjoy using the "Report Posts" feature. I like doing my part to help out the moderators and the community here. Think of it like picking up a piece of litter in a school hallway; sure, the janitor may be along later to do it, but why shouldn't you be nice and give them a hand?

You have the option of filling out a brief note if you'd like. Otherwise you can just hit submit. In either case we get an e-mail message saying you've reported a post and a new thread is created in mod-land to discuss the post that has been reported.

Since Snowy says she likes reporting things - and she often reports spam - I'll hunt one of hers down and give you a screen shot. Give me a minute or two to find one.

Of course. Look at the suggestions forum, do a search and you'll see that many ideas have been pitched. Some came to fruition. Some never see the light of day. Some were demanded over and over and over.. and the staff tried it out, even though our best judgment was to stay the course.

Here's a few that didn't make it... Tilted Pets, Tilted Health and Fitness, and Titled Marketplace. Heck we even had specific locations for those far flung around the world to discuss their own little sections.

These were demanded over and over, in the end, they didn't get much traffic nor did they generate many discussions.

Nothing looks like a crappy forum than dead forums that the last posted thread was months ago.

no, if you look you'll see you aren't the first to come up with this particular suggestion. if you look for TFP Pets, you'll see that it was demanded over and over. Look up TFP Men's Lounge, and you'll see the same thing as well.

The board is long in the tooth, so we've done many innovate and different things. some have been utter failures, and others been positive growths.

as far as the comments on the brand, well it's a little off putting to go to some friend's house and and point at the decor and claim it is tacky or off putting, which well, is about how I read the critique on tilted, tilted, tilted.

The health and fitness bit has been done, it failed the mod test for keeping forums around, not that it wasn't entertaining.

/another suggestion, maybe we should add a "we tried it and it failed/Ain't gonna happen" section to the 'About this forum' sticky.

List the ideas that just aren't going to happen (aka Male equivalent to the Ladies Lounge), and the forums that were tried, didn't work and were then removed, like the regional forums and tilted health & fitness.

The health and fitness bit has been done, it failed the mod test for keeping forums around, not that it wasn't entertaining.

/another suggestion, maybe we should add a "we tried it and it failed/Ain't gonna happen" section to the 'About this forum' sticky.

List the ideas that just aren't going to happen (aka Male equivalent to the Ladies Lounge), and the forums that were tried, didn't work and were then removed, like the regional threads and tilted health & fitness.
See, but 'Health and Fitness' is different from 'Health, Mind and Body.'

Personally, I'd be less likely to click on 'Health and Fitness,' as I don't like meatheads.

But 'Health, Mind and Body' could cover a much broader spectrum. Depression, heart disease, suicide, genital warts, pink eye, etc.

Meatheads? Wait... that reminds me of that grunting thread.

...

Putting health and body-related discussion in neat little cubbyholes proves to be difficult.

Moderators curse on this forum. If I really cared, I'd report the posts from now on.
Calling another member 'rude' is not a flame. Now if I called you a bitch or dumbass, I'd welcome the infraction.

If anything, I think this place needs fewer sections...

and that's where this is about growth and evolution. you may be less inclined, but here you should be inclined. If you have preconceived notions before you even click on something that's just defensive posturing before you've even gotten a chance to be open minded to what might be lurking there.

and all those things you're talking about are covered by Tilted Life. gential warts is covered by Sexuality since it is considered an STD.

see... everyone seems to think that their idea is going to be that very different, unique thing. But all in all, many of them just didn't pass the traffic test.

I'm going to ask you publicly to stop the sniping.

We don't have the benefit of posture, body language, and tone here. So I'm going to ask that you take a step back and decide to no longer engage this part of the discussion. If I'm taking it out of context, please PM me.
