I agree with that. I don't think people should be treated differently due to statistics. But at the same time, I'm not opposed to it either. If it's gonna happen, I'll throw my little female symbol out there. Or if you put a fill in the blank for gender, for people who don't want to share, they can come up with something creative ( Ie, Alien, I don't need a gender to rock your world ) kind of thing.

I'm quite sure there already is this option, but it doesn't display at all times via your posts and adjacent avatar; it's found within your own UserCP, and by way of any other TFP member clicking on your profile (the link found in your username) and rummaging around some - near something similar to "About Me".

The choices were (paraphrasing):
'How would you like to identify yourself as:
o male
o female
o tentacles

so, begin being a bit more social and learn a thing or two about your TFP neighbors by clicking their profiles. Solution: 1.
