TFP Bowl Playoffs Week #3 - Conference Championships (All may particpate)
This is the third week of the TFP Bowl Playoffs and we are down to the final four. All can post their picks, but only those listed below can eventually be the winner of the TFP Bowl Trophy(tm). If you make a mistake, it is your mistake, not ours.
The tournament is a single elimination format. Therefore, no one should have an advantage heading into the playoffs. Anyone in the tournament can win. Here are the match ups for the third week: 1. AvoiceofReason versus 11. BonesCPA 3. Giant Hamburger versus 4. maximusveritas The games will be picked on winner of each game. The tiebreakers have changed since the regular season, and also since weeks one and two, so please read them carefully. Note that if both players tie on the games, the tiebreakers are taken in order until a winner is decided. You must pick the correct team/score in order to win the tiebreaker - if your pick is closer to the tiebreaker than your opponent, but still not correct, the next tiebreaker is used. First Tiebreaker: Highest scoring team of the weekend. You have four teams to choose from. Team name is needed. Second Tiebreaker: Lowest scoring team of the weekend. Team name is needed. Third Tiebreaker: First score of weekend. Pick type of score - there are three choices: touchdown, field goal and safety. You must pick the one of the three and it is for the first points scored in the first game of the weekend. (Do not name a team - name the type of scoring play.) Fourth Tiebreaker: Last score of weekend. Pick type of score - there are three choices: touchdown, field goal and safety. You must pick the one of the three and it is for the last points scored in the second game of the weekend. (Do not name a team - name the type of scoring play.) Fifth Tiebreaker: Total points of all games played on the weekend. All points of all teams playing is the last number. Closest without going over. If both go over, then the closest. All can participate in this thread, but the four players listed above should not post their picks directly into this thread. The players still in the race for the TFP Bowl Trophy should PM their picks directly to me and once I have received all of the picks, I will post them in this thread myself. I trust everyone’s sportsmanship, but as they say, it is better to be safe than sorry. Once picks are posted by me in this thread, they may NOT be changed, so choose carefully. Everyone else participating should post directly in this thread. Good luck to all. AFC Championship Game 3:00 pm (EST) Sunday January 22, 2006 Pittsburgh Steelers (13-5, 8-2 road) at Denver Broncos (14-3, 9-0 home) NFC Championship Game 6:30 pm (EST) Sunday January 22, 2006 Carolina Panthers (13-5, 8-2 road) at Seattle Seahawks (14-3, 9-0 home) |
Good luck to the survivors! If I were still picking, I'd pick:
Pittsburgh Seattle Pittsburgh Denver Field Goal Touchdown 80 |
Pittsburgh
Carolina 1.Carolina 2. Denver 3. touchdown 4. fg 5. 100 |
Stillers
Panathers stillers broncos td 65 |
I'm still waiting for two of the four remaining participants to PM their picks. I wil post their picks once all four of them are received.
|
if they don't pick can I take over one of their spots? :p

Interesting picks, looks like the tiebreakers might be important this time.
|
I love this contest!! I had to log on to check where I stood after the first score of the day.
Bones and I are going to have to go to the tiebreakers, and we both picked Denver to score the most points. Pittsburgh just kicked a field goal, so I have the third tiebreaker secured. But if Carolina scores fewer points than the other three, I lose anyway. Go Panthers?!? |
Ugh, it's not looking good for Denver (or for me) right now. Looks like I'll need a big win by Seattle to have any shot any winning this week.

Go Seattle defense. |
So basically, if Carolina scores more than 17 points, Avoiceofreason wins. Otherwise, BonesCPA wins.
If Seattle wins with 34 or more, I win. Otherwise, Giant Hamburger wins. |
Looks like it'll be me and you Bones.
The matchups this week were real close. Both AVoiceOfReason and Giant Hamburger deserve a lot of credit for making great picks throughout the season. |

I've never done anything like this for the NFL, and will be participating again next year if someone cares to run it! Thanks to Dylan and all that played and made it fun. |
Yep, the championship round will feature BonesCPA versus maximusveritas. BonesCPA beat Avoiceofreason on the second tiebreaker, while maximusveritas beat Giant Hamburger on the first tiebreaker. Congrats, guys.
I will start the championship thread later this week and perhaps have it double as a Super Bowl discussion thread to save space on here. The same rules apply. So, if you want to get your pick in early, just PM them to me. |
Hopefully, I'm not a bridesmaid again. Good luck, max.
Not only congratulations to GH and Avor, but thanks again to dylanmarsh for picking up the job this year. |
Hail Worthy Competitors!
It was a pleasure to do this all season long. Good luck in the Superbowl. -GH |
