First Heatley now Thornton
http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=145158&hubname=
I can't believe he finally got his wish. Boston had to have jumped at the first deal they saw, because this makes little sense from a Boston point of view. They traded an 85-90 point guy for a 4th liner and a guy who's career best is in the 40's. Stuart is good, but Thornton has been one of the best Centers, even if he disappears in the playoffs. |

The Heatley deal was nothing like this. That deal needed to happen for both Heatley and the Thrashers to move on after the accident, and Hossa is no slouch. This one just defies all logic, concidering all that the Bruins let go to be able to sign Thornton to a multi-year contract. This leaves either Zhamnov or Bergeron as their #1 center, and while I like Bergeron, he certainly hasn't gone out of his way to impress anyone this season. I would just hate to be the switchboard operator of a sports talk radio program in Boston this morning.

This trade is mind boggling, much like Kordic for Courtnall trade back in the day. Not too sure what the Bruins are thinking on this one, but the Sharks are looking better.

Hopefully this will be the end of the Harry Sinden / Mike O'Connell complex about "I still feel real bad for swindling Cam Neely away from the Canucks for Barry Pederson, so I'll make poor trade after poor trade to balance my conscious while making every Bruins fan out there feel alienated and pissed off."
What the fuck are they thinking with this one? I just hope this one turns out like the Nomar trade, but I doubt it. |

Brad Stuart is a free-agent at the end of the season too, which just adds to the craziness of this trade. If Boston has a fire sale, I couldn't see Stuart re-signing with them.
Not that one game is any indication, but Stuart and Sturm were both on the scoresheet tonight versus Ottawa - a 3-goal shutout. Hopefully shutting out the best team in the league can be something Boston can build on. -Tamerlain |
