Joe Montana had a great answer on Rome's show the other day on how he would have handled TO. 'I would see him open, give him a nod, and then throw to somebody else'.

Doesn't he realize that as a receiver, he has no control over his stats. Only his QB does.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson called the Philadelphia Eagles' punishment of Terrell Owens "much too severe."

Jackson said in a statement released Friday that Owens could have been more professional when he publicly complained about his contract, his team and the Eagles' organization.

But Jackson said Owens' suspension without pay for four games and deactivation for the rest of the season is "much too severe for the charge" and hurts the athlete's NFL career at its height.

The civil rights activist said the level of punishment could have been warranted if Owens had been caught shaving points, selling drugs, carrying a gun or fighting fans without sufficient restraint.

"This does not warrant a one-year ban from the game," Jackson said, adding that the Eagles should release Owens to the open market or free agency if they no longer want to associate with him.

Ralph Nader, a consumer activist and former presidential candidate, has already called for the suspension to be rescinded.

Owens was suspended last week after he said in an interview that the Eagles showed "a lack of class" for not publicly recognizing his 100th career touchdown catch, and that the team would be better off with Green Bay's Brett Favre as quarterback. He has since apologized.

Complete statement
"Terrell Owens did an interview last week and engaged in some unsportsmanlike speech, deemed detrimental to the team, but nonetheless free speech. He expressed some dissatisfaction with his contract, his team and the Eagles' organization, which should have been expressed in a more professional manner. The Eagles have suspended T.O. for four games without pay and have decided to deactivate him for the rest of the year. His future in the National Football League is uncertain, thus potentially ending his career at its heights.

"This punishment is much too severe for the charge. If he had been caught shaving points, selling drugs, carrying a gun or fighting some fans, who provoked him, and he had not shown sufficient restraint, we could understand the severe suspension, because those are very serious and illegal acts. Unfortunately for T.O., who belatedly apologized three days after the infraction, the real question is do his comments warrant a penalty this severe?

"The answer is no. This does not warrant a one-year ban from the game. The NFL Players Association has taken a position that the punishment does not correspond with the infraction and the association wants the Eagles to cut T.O. if they are not going to reinstate him. I agree. T.O. has publicly apologized. His heart is contrite. If the Philadelphia Eagles' owners do not find his apology acceptable and no longer aim to maintain an association with him, they should release him to the open market or free agency, allowing him to test the free market for his services. I call for fairness in this dispute."

Thanks for your opinion Jesse, now sit down and shaddup... How exactly does anyone but TO know what is in TO's heart... And Ralph nader weighs in too? What's good ole Ralphie planning on a run for president again and is trying to get his name in the news?

"Jesse Jackson has taken time out from his busy schedule of garnering publicity elsewhere so he can devote all his efforts to garnering publicity here."

I love ya Mal but you leave Ralphie alone.... I voted for him in '00. :p

Honest, I did. It was the first thing that truly attracted my ex wife to me, was the fact I voted for him.

Ustwo 11-14-2005 02:07 PM

As a Bears fan, I hope that T.O. finds a home with the packers.

Muhahahaha.

I think the only team dumb enough to take him would be the Raiders but even they are saying "NO" right now. Mind you they don't even have the cap room to accomodate his lavish contract demands.

tspikes51 11-15-2005 08:23 PM

He's going to Cleveland. They are in dire need of a star and Cleveland fans would love somebody with a big mouth. I realize that I'm just a tiny bit biased because of my affection for another Ohio pro football team, but it really seems logical that this is where he would go.

I sure hope you don't have affection towards a certain college ohio football team because they're about to get tore up by the big blue machine.

I don't give a damn about the whole state of Michigan, whole state of Michigan, whole state of Mighigan.

I don't give a damn about the whole state of Michigan, I'm from O HI O

In the immortal words of Coach Woody Hayes, "We're going to go up to tthat school up North, and we're going to hit them and knock them on their asses, when they try to get up we're going to keep knocking them on their ass till they realize they are beaten...... that's how you win football games and that's how Ohio State is going to beat that team up North."

God Bless Coach Hayes.

TO is entertaining. And his job is to be an entertainer, so I think he's doing a good job.

Why all the hate?

I'm kinda confused about that too. I can understand it when people jokingly bash Owens as many have done here, but I've also sensed some real hatred of the guy elsewhere and that's a bit disconcerting to me as a sports fan. It is just a game and it's just entertainment.

djtestudo 11-18-2005 07:35 PM

It would be one thing if he was just talking smack and signing footballs after TDs. That IS entertaining, and is one of the reasons why I love Chad Johnson (despite his present condition of BeingontheBengalsitis :D).

However, Owens has somewhere along the way moved into the realm of believing his own hype. Johnson has a big mouth, but it is well known how hard he works and how well he is liked by both his teammates and opponents. Owens believes he is the only thing that matters, and so everyone should do what he wants.

He whined himself out of San Francisco when he was the one who fucked up his chance. He whined himself out of a trade to Baltimore and into Philadelphia after San Francisco tried to give him what he wanted. He spent a season (mostly) praising McNabb, then almost before he leaves the site of the Super Bowl he is tearing him a new one.

He is a complete asshole in every sense of the word.

Absolutely. I don't care if he screws up his own career, but by badmouthing his QB, coaching staff, the Eagles organization as a whole, and causing divisions in the locker room, he is causing distractions which affect the team performance on the field. McNabb is(was) playing hurt but I don't believe for a second thats the only reason for his worst season ever in Philly. I remember him throwing 3 TDs on a broken ankle a couple years ago. Go screw yourself TO but don't take the team down with you.

gonadman 11-19-2005 09:53 AM

One more thing. The guy is a frickin time bomb. God help any team that picks him up. Maybe a team that needs a little more offensive punch to get them into the SB this year, but forget about a long term contract. Sooner or later, without a doubt, he'll explode again. The guy can't keep his mouth shut.

TO is a me-first, money-grubbing shitbag. If I was an NFL owner, HE couldn't pay ME enough to be on my team.

fuck him.

Sion has it on the nut. AMEN Brother!!! and a hearty F You TO as well.

I saw a short list of who might end up with TO next year. It included the Broncos and the Cowboys, my favorite pro teams. I don't think Shanahan or Parcells will put up with his BS. If they sign the A hole they go to the top of my shit list!! (I'm sure bith franchises are scared to death to be in that spot!)

not liking the Buckeyes I can understand. but how can you not like Jim Tressel? He's only one of the top 5 coaches in the NCAA and an upstanding citizen to boot.

Dragonknight 11-19-2005 08:14 PM

Ahh hah hah hah haaaaa where are the eagles going now NOWHERE, where NOWHERE!!!!
Yeah TO ran his mouth in a completely wrong manner, NEVER and I repeat NEVER diss your team in public. That is your family while the season is going, even if some of what you say, "Cough" a family recognizes big things "Cough", "Cough" QB getting tired in the Super Bowl WTF!!! "Cough". Still the point is that you never diss your team. Now that McNabb is hurt, the Eagles have a better chance of growing wings out of their asses, then of going anywhere this season without TO. Hell even with him, there chances still aren't that good. You have to give credit where credit is due. Yes TO is a (fill in whole list of shitty things), but he is a DAMN good player that brings in BIG plays and even BIGGER numbers.

so back to TO i feel that hes just mentally unstable, but he is one hell of a reciever. I hope he comes back just to play and this time he just does his business and keeps his mouth shut. Hopefully he learned his lesson and with whatever team he signs with next he can learn from his mistakes, but since this is basically the second time i doubt it, who knows maybe his thrid times the chamr, and if it is hopefully its with the chargers.. brees, lt, gates, mccardell and TO would be ownage to the maximum

I can't imagine the Chargers wanting him. Brees is still a relatively young QB, and I don't think there would be enough footballs to go around on that team if you added TO.

Heh heh, sounds like a diehard fan of one of the many NFC teams the Eagles have thumped repeatedly over the past 4 years.

I used to feel that way about the Cowboys in the 70's

Justsomeguy 11-23-2005 12:15 PM

My fiancee knows who TO is now from the news. I'd be surprised if she knows any top player in the NFL atm. Possibly one or two, but I doubt it.

Why is his actions so outrageous? He grew up a poor trashy black kid without any real goals in a piece of shit town. What kind of behavior do you really expect? A Christ-like figure? He's a solid entertainer and as much of an asshole as everyone says that he is, I'm sure he has still donated more to charities/aiding others than pretty much anyone on this board. Agents, money, and public service reps help make it happen, but he still did it. More than most people can say.

Ruling goes against Owens in NFL arbitration case

November 23, 2005
PHILADELPHIA, United States (AFP) - Arbitrator Richard Bloch ruled against controversial receiver Terrell Owens, upholding his four-game banishment by the Philadelphia Eagles for conduct detrimental to the team.

The final game of his suspension is Sunday against Green Bay.

Bloch presided over a 13-hour hearing last Friday at which Owens argued the punishment imposed by the Eagles was excessive and sought to be released if he was to be punished by being benched every week.

The Eagles argued Owens violated his contract by making derogatory public comments about the club and questioning the skill and durability of quarterback Donovan McNabb, who will soon undergo season-ending surgery for a sport hernia.

Owens was suspended by Eagles coach Andy Reid for conduct detrimental to the team for four games, with Reid saying Owens would never again play for the team as it planned to deactivate him for all remaining games after the banishment.

The NFL Players Association argued to have the suspension reduced and force the Eagles to play Owens or release him.

Officials are concerned Owens will become a greater distraction should he be allowed to return to the Eagles training facility and rejoin the club, however briefly.

The Eagles argue they are entitled to the return of 1.7 million dollars in bonus money from Owens but have said they would forfeit the funds rather than bring back Owens.

The Eagles are 4-6 and have lost three games in a row since banishing Owens, who had 77 catches for 1,200 yards and a club record 14 touchdowns last season. This season, Owens had 47 catches for 763 yards and six touchdowns.

Owens, who makes a base salary of 3.75 million dollars this season, would go through the NFL waiver system if released with the league's worst club having the first chance to claim the talented but controversial receiver.

The Houston Texans would have the first chance but team officials have already questioned why they would want a divisive and expensive player on the squad given their woeful 1-9 start.

Owens has been unhappy since the club refused in the off-season to renegotiate his seven-year, 48 million-dollar contract after he helped the Eagles reach the Super Bowl, which they lost to New England in February.
Well, well..... It is nice to see an arbitrator rule for a club, perhaps others will now and some of these "pros" will realize when they sign a contract they also sign away some rights.

Initially, I thought TO was getting the short end of the stick but as details came out I realized he got what he deserved. In fact, I would have suspended him without pay for the rest of the season not just 4 games. As an owner and a team you have to look at situations like this as someone "TO" who does not want to win nor supports the team, then you have to ask why would I pay him these millions for not wanting to be a part of the team and for being a divisive influence that may cause my team to lose, therfore I would lose money, because fan support would go down.

Also, it's well deserved he'll have to go through the waiver wire....   ........ and it says something when the worst team in the league with the first pick says "NO T.O. here"..... just think what a blow to his ego it would be if noone claimed him...... one can only hope.

I wish Boston would have done the same to Manny when he cried during the playoffs that he wanted traded.

Ace_O_Spades 11-23-2005 12:58 PM

Yeah, I think it would be sweet chin music to T.O. if clubs passed on him.

Too much baggage, he's a menace.

Officially Keshawned

On the point of suspending him longer, that is the longest "suspension" allowed.

All I can say is that I am glad his asshole-ness allowed him to flaunt the NFL rules and refuse his trade to Baltimore.
