Super Mario moving?
We've talked about Mario Lemieux's concerns about Pittsburgh's finances before on TFP, but now there are reports that instead of just retiring, he's thinking about playing elsewhere, with Detroit, New York and Toronto listed as possible stops.
Should Lemieux just retire and be an owner? Would you rather he plays out his days with the Pens? Should he try for another cup somewhere else? |
I think he should just retire. As a Detroit fan I don't want him there. He's past his prime and while he'll still make some decent plays I feel like he'll be tying up a spot that someone younger could be playing. Of the 3 listed, Toronto would be the best spot for him if he decides to keep playing. He's had a great career..he doesn't need to be the MJ of hockey and keep coming back.
|
I am a Rangers fan, and don't really want him. Sather said that it was far fetched at best. I would hate to see him in another uniform, that is for sure. He is one of the few that have been with the same team and been loyal to them. Too bad they are going broke.
|
He is loyal to us. I couldnt imagine our team if he leaves. i hate the fucking Rangers, take Kovalev and now try and poach Lemieux? they're worse then the Capitals (bribed Jagr), and they cant make it into the playoffs with such a ridiculous amount of money. Fuck the Rangers. When he retires it had better be in a pens uniform.
|
One thing on Kovalev...the Rangers did not exactly take him from you guys. It was a trade. The Pens did not have to trade him. I would be mad at your teams fans and ownership for not putting the money back into the team. Pitt is a big enough market to support that team, they just don't.

Lemieux has now come out to bury any rumors of him moving. If he's playing, he'll do so in Western Pennsylvania. Otherwise, he'll slip up to the owners box.
Let's move on to Mark Messier..... |
Mark is my favorite hockey player of all time. I have met him a couple of times, and he is the coolest guy ever. He might be one of the greates leaders ever. That said, he might need to hang them up. It hurts me to say that, but he is getting up there, and every coach we have seems to be intimidated by him and end up giving him too many minutes. He put up pretty good numbers last year though.
|
I agree.. while he's not my fav of all time.. I think he's a great leader. He does need to hang up the skates though. I could see him possibly going about 10 mins a game or something like that but no more. As far as who my fav of all time is.. why that's easy it's Steve Yzerman...now there's a leader ;)

He needs to have one last shining moment and then skate away. |
The problem with the Rangers is too many "chiefs" and not enough "indians".
You can put all of the Lindros', Bure's, Carter's and Kovalev's you want... it's still not going to give you a good team. |
I disagree, for all of the players you named...none are Chiefs. All of those players, maybe not Carter becuase he is young, shy away from leadership. That is why Mark may be back next year. The real problem in that crowd is that not a one of them can play D. Throw in the fact that Trottier was an idiot....and there you have last season. I love that they picked up Holik, and he is a leader and plays D. Put him on a line with Kovalev and Carter. Put Lindros, Bure, and maybe a McCarthey or a bruiser on another line. Nedved, Samuelson, and Lundmark on the third line, and Mess with some decent role players on a lesser used fourth line. Make a commitment to D, and keep the Leetch's, Kasp, and some other defenseman and I think we have a hockey team. They need one or two more defensemen, and then just commit to playing D.
Hey Glen, I should be the coach :) |
You know love him or hate him you have to respect him, for what he does on and off the ice.
But that being said I do think that its time for him to take a few years off and come back behind the bench. He will make a great coach |

Well, I am a life long Flyer fan and since we have a moron for a GM there's a good chance that 'old' Mario could end up here and that makes me sad but if Clarkie is going to sign another oldster I'd rather have Mario.

I think he'll retire, but even if he doesn't there is no way that he'll be moving outaa pittsberg. Can't see that happening at all
|
The same problem happend to Jordan, they should not have come back. Now they are not as great as they used to be. Jordan deffinatly should have not played for the Wizard, i know he is the owner.. but should have come back to Bulls. Lemuex was too old and his back is ruined. He will retire after this season, if he can get through it....
