FOOTBALL...oh we are that close now!
All right sports fans. Exhibition season in the Canadian league started.....THANK YOU FOOTBALL GODS!
For anyone who cares....quick update - Ottawa just squeaked one over Montreal (should have been a good game - making up for their hockey perhaps lol) and Saskatchewan kicked some major ass on Winnipeg ( sorry bender ). My whole point....we now have football again! Only a matter of time now before I can watch my Dolphins kick ass this year! Anyone out there following the CFL or is it all NFL type people out there? |
Sorry, NFL here. From Chicago, which means I root for da Bears. :)
I like the CFL, but rarely watch it. |
Ahh I used to cheer for the Bears when Mike Singletary used to play for them. *remember the eyes!
I miss him and Ditka together. |
I am an NFL fan, I used to watch the CFL when the local Baltimore "Stallions" were around.
You think the Dolphins can win with Griese throwing the pig skin? There D will probably be one of the best again, I was shocked that they didnt end up making the playoffs. |
I think they are in the toughest division (what with Bledsoe & Brady in there) but the addition of Seau will help them out and you can never go wrong having Ricky running for you too! I'm hoping for great things from them this year....God knows I supported them through all the crap! :P
|
Canadian Football, eh?
|
Aussie Rules Football is where it starts and ends my friends although NFL doesn't exactly suck either. GO TIGERS!! & GO COWBOYS!!
|
can hardly wait to see what Parcel does for da boys. The way the cycle seems to go they should be a contender in the next year or two.
|
Football ??!!
Already ...crap that just means that hockey is about to end, it must be June. |

Singletary was a beast. plain and simple.
|
No way! Singletary was one of the best players ever....period. He could freeze a guy with those eyes - controlled rage. Love it!
Oh...and dragon2fire....ya - football way up in Canada...who knew? You may want to look at a few other NFL players who came from our little ol' league. There's this guy - Jeff Garcia, you may have heard of him, we used to watch him play just a few seasons ago here at home. |
I saw an NFL Europe game yesterday... I had no idea they liked american football in europe.
|
o yea i knwo there is a leuage in canada i just have no clue who the players are the teams how long the season is
i know the felid is lager then in the nfl |
Yup....another player to come from the CFL was Warren Moon....he played eons ago for Edmonton.
We've lost a ton ..... and I mean a ton....of good Calgary players to the NFL. Some make it huge...some end up warming the bench and others come home crying. Ummm, sorry if I seemed a little defensive there! ;) |
Oh and we've already started our season...just now.
See it has this rotten tendency to snow up here in November so we gotta start ahead of the game! :) |
Been watching NFL Europe for a few weeks now. That and indoor. Love the sport. Cannot wait for the real NFL games to begin. Fire up that DirecTV.....
|
I like the NFL Europe league as well, troit and used to watch a lot of the indoor league. It's a great way to keep the "I can't wait for the NFL to start" withdrawals at bay! :D
|
I'm a REDSKINS FAN
Born and bred live in Florida cann't wait for Sapp to get busted for anything over payed asshole, Screw TampaBay. bring Jack Cooke back from the dead cause Daniel Synder eats the sweat out of my shorts. He has ruined the Redskins!  |
Alouettes fan here! Boy it's going to be tough with no Running back.
Back before NFL Europe, we had a team in Montreal in the World League; The Montreal Machine. Was popular and I was at the Olympic Stadium for the World Bowl in 1992 I think. My prediction for the NFL; Broncos all the way this year. |
I follow some college players that play up in Canada. I am friends with Marcus Crandell and I know Keith Stokes (Who just got released I think). I watch arena football sometimes. It is fun to go to a live game.
As for the NFL....GIANTS BABY!!!!! Shockey will bring us to the promise land. |
You are all going to be sooooo sorry when my beloved dolphins win this year!
:D |

I live in Shreveport Louisiana and we had a CFL team in the 90s
The Shreveport Pirates. The Canada football season didn't go over very well here. Its too damn hot down here for Football in the summer. I went to most of the homegames and had a blast. The CFL game is a lot of fun to watch. Especially when you get to see Flutie on the big field.( damn, y'all gotta big football field) I wish the CFL could have made it in the US but it didn't, I also would like to see the CFL get more TV time in the US market. Now I have Saints season tickets and a 5 hour one way ride to New Orleans for each game. Damn I can't wait till September. |
I went to a CFL game when I was in Memphis for "A" school back in 95-96. It was Memphis vs. Toronto, I think. Ismail was playing for Toronto then. Memphis lost, 10-7. Memphis only played that one season and went 9-9.
I remember being told something about how the Liberty Bowl's end zones were only 15 yards wide as opposed to the CFL's regulation 20 yard end zones, and thinking, what a candy-ass league. -Mikey |
GO wolfpack!

And yes....we do have big ol' fields up here don't we?! Makes the game a little tougher! :D |
It's been years since I've been able to watch the CFL. So even though preseason has started there, I'm still waiting for the NFL.
Now being an SF Bay Area guy for my entire life, the 9ers are my team. For those of you who don't know, Jeff Garcia played in the CFL too. It should be interesting to see if they really can improve with the limited amount of moves that they have made and with the change in head coach. Erickson's offensive philosophy is so different from Mariucci's that they may look like a whole new team. The other Bay Area team should be pretty good too. I was a Raiders fan once. I went to UC Berkeley in the 60s, when the Raiders were new. And they trained in my home town before they moved to LA. Now that they're back, I watch them to see how the former 49ers do. Go JR!!! 40+ year old wide receiver, who woulda believed? |
I'm in the DC area, so we all watch the Redskins.
So to answer your question, no, there is no professional football in my area. |
My wife went to High School in the DC area (Suitland, MD) and she hates the Redskins.
I was amazed to see the degree of passion that she can build whenever the Redskins play. I don't quite understand the dislike, but it is definitely for real. |
I apologize in advance for this extra long post but I'M HEARTBROKEN.....this thread...believe it or not.... originated around the CFL and you must forgive me a moment to cry over my stupid home teams latest idiotic decision.....
God......and to think this was the year I was going to buy my season tickets! jesh... Ya...winning tradition....so let's lose our coach (Wally come home) our qb, and (my little prediction) Kelvin all to BC....Hey - Lion's fans (sorry, CFL not NFL) how does it feel to have the majority of your team made up of Stampeders? lol.....j/k....don't throw things! Oh btw...maybe this upsets me so much because the man is not only a great football player but a REALLY nice guy. I've met him.....my kid's done a 40 yrd dash against him in a fan appreciation thing they do every year and he was the best PR person they could have had out there. I for one shall miss his stupid big ol' gap-toothed smile. Shame on my team for doing this. :( |
I understand your feelings. It's the same feeling on most teams I follow. You always want those players to stay forever. I have a close friend who would always moan and cry when players would be cut or retire. He was always convinced that the team would never win again. (Let's see the 9ers had winning seasons for like 20 years)
I'm sorry that we got off to the NFL. Like I said, I can't get CFL anymore. I used to love to watch it because it's such a wide open game. Arena Football just can't compare to all that open space. |
NFL Europe??!!??!..
Geez.. I didn't even know there was one. So I got NO chance of watchin' CFL, and as for NFL I'm lucky to watch channel 5's game at 12am on Monday. I've forgotten how the NCAA is doing... ARGGHH, it sucks being an American Football fan in England... Go 'Canes Go Dolphins And I don't care what anyone else says cause we don't get the coverage here to let me argue informatively :( |
Quote:
And I can understand your wife's passion against certain teams....I'm sorta like that with the Bronco's....sorry Denver fans. It's just a very long running "war" I've had with my brother! |
I wish we had Pro Football here in Seattle- it sounds fun to have a team to believe in. I used to like the Rams (L.A. not St. Louis) and the 49'ers (John Brodie is a cousin, but Gene Washington was nicer to me!).
Maybe someday Seattle will get a franchise! ;) |
lmao....it's a good thing we know you're just kidding or you'd get your poor ass flamed here! :D
So....if you ever get a *ahem* professional team down there...give me a call, I'll come watch a game! :) *edit....and wait....Brodie is your cousin? Cool! |
NFL...total Redskins fan. Have high expectations for them this year. Not too fond of Snyder, but he's giving Spurrier the personnel he needs to be successful.
The Skins essentially 'raided the Jets pantry' by going after Coles, Morton, Thomas and Hall. We now have a weapon at WR, a guy who can block at T, a special teams play maker and a veteran kicker. Those 4 guys improve our record by 2 wins. Hall makes a game winning field goal that we missed last year, and Thomas blocks a blitzing LB long enough for Ramsey to connect with Coles on a 70 yard game breaker. |
