Competitive eating
Watching the other day, some competitive eater compared himself with the likes of Jordan, Ali, DiMaggio...
Is competitive eating a sport? Other than Asian competitors, the rest of them should go on a strict diet rather than out there chowing down and clogging up their arteries. Any thoughts on this? |

well i dont call nascar a sport so i most defintitly would not call competive eating a sport,,
to be called a sport it has to have athletes and i dont think eating 50 hot dogs in 12min is athletic, its more like a weird hobby

Why wouldn't the Asian competitors have to be worried about clogging up their arteries?

Competive eating represents nothing but intensified gluttony. This isn't a sport it's a double dare gone bad.

Competitive eating is not a sport unless it is a race to see who eats more faster. Then it is just like Nascar. Without the eating...and more people...and cars...and they move around.
Speaking of competitive eating, I saw a guy on TV eat like 50 soft boiled egss (he drank them) they gave him a small stroke. The other time he did it, a small heart attack. Anyone know what is in eggs that in large quantities they are deadly?

eggs are pretty high in cholesteral and sodium. something like 70% for chol. on a 2000 calorie diet.
i dont think competitve eating or nascar are sports. both take skill and endurance, but it all just depends on how a "sport" is defined. |

Of course it's a sport. It has rules, competitors, an international federation, a world champion, rankings....
I'm impressed. http://www.ifoce.com/eaters.php?action=detail&sn=22

Competitive eating is not a sport. Really, it actually cannot even be put in a current catagory of sports/athletics/competitions out there today. It requires physical ability, skill, determination, and strategy. I can be a speed/quantity eater myself, but I am even in awe about what these people can do.

One day an Englishman, a Scotsman, and an Irishman walked into a pub together. They each bought a pint of Guinness. Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!" |

Aren't chess games carried on ESPN along with spelling bees and poker tournaments? I guess those could be "sports" too... *shrug*
