Hopkins-Taylor decision
Although it pains me to say it, I agree with Roy Jones that the fight should have been a draw. How one judge didn't give the 12th round to Hopkins, I'm not sure. Of course, one could also argue that Hopkins was lucky to have not been deducted at least a point for holding and punching (and possibly that headbutt across Taylor's jaw.) Either way, I would've liked to have seen the belts change hands more convincingly. A rematch is interesting, but at Hopkins' age months start turning into years.

Boxing has become nothing but a farce anymore. I watch whatever might be on HBO or ESPN but I refuse to PPV anything anymore just for the fact of how popular the Tyson 30 second fights had become, very very rarely do you ever get a really good fight anymore where EVERYONE says yes XXX won the fight.

Fixed?
Give me a break. That's quite an over-reaction. Hopkins needs to do a lot more a lot sooner next time around. He was definitely the stronger fighter in the later rounds, but he took way too long to start being aggressive. In the next fight I think both boxers are going to come out a lot quicker and stronger. It will be the fight everyone wanted to see the first time around. I think Taylor should be even more agressive in the early rounds and not allow Hopkins the opportunity to fight at his preferred pace. I feel he can beat Hopkins to the punch consistently. We shall see. On a side note, I see Tarver beating the hell out of Jones again in the rematch. I think Jones has Tyson syndrome now: Once you realize you're not invincible, it's very hard to forget.

I think the psychological part for Jones is secondary. His reflexes aren't what they used to be and that's why he's not invincible. If he had had the discipline to hone his fundamental boxing skills like Hopkins did, he might actually be a contender at his "advanced" age. A solid jab and good lateral movement go a long way.

The fight should have been a draw, it is a draw if the one judge doesn't give Taylor the 12th. Which in my mind, was ludacris that Taylor got the 12th in anyway, he was clearly dominated late, and the 12th was a very definitive round for Hopkins. Hopkins, as usual didn't do enough early, and didn't sneak in enough rounds so when he got started there was no question. It was going to come back to haunt him at some point. No question Hopkins was lazy early, but in NO way does Taylor deserve the 12th. The fight should have been a draw.
Taylor in the next fight really needs to let his hands go. Hopkins can't handle his strength, as very apparent when he tried to wrap him up Hopkins style, and Taylor just threw him off. The problem with Jones is that he still has a slight chance of greatness once again, and people want to see it. I personally think Tarver is WAY overrated, and Jones still has enough boxing ability to dominate him like he should. Jones defense is based on speed, when he moved up, he lost a tiny bit of that through poor conditioning when he tried to come back down. I still think he beats Tarver this time, or he gets KO'ed again. WHo knows, it's boxing! Be entertaining none the less. Last edited by Kurant; 08-01-2005 at 11:00 AM.. |

I agree if it goes to decision it will be jones as the winner and if its a ko it will be tarver as the winner. In the second fight before jones got hammered with the left jones looked good. But after the johnson fight i really dont know if he has any thing left and can pull of the upset.
