Proposed 2008 Formula 1 Regulations
After yesterday's American Grand Prix debacle, I stumbled onto the new rule proposals for the 2008 season. Original content can be found here.
The FIA reveal 2008 rule proposalsTo me, they're sucking all the the juice out of Formula 1. I mean - one single tyre supplier - where the competitiveness?? I doubt half these regulations will make it onto the racetrack, but the mere fact that they're being considered, and the fact that the Concorde Agreement comes to an end in 2007...as a lover of the sport, I see dark days ahead. |

the single tyre is great, because of 2things, Saftey and to lower the speed that are on the way out of control, soon there are no track that F1 could go around safetly enough
and i think the Michelin debalce yeasterday prove that Michelin arent capable of F1.... i dont want standard things like brakes and other stuff on the car, if i want a onemake series i tune in the superb ChampCar series (Forza Bjorn Wirdheim HVM Team ) Last edited by Spendrups; 06-20-2005 at 06:59 AM.. |

Generally I favor open competition between manufacturers in all facets of racing, but a single tire supplier is something that I definitely favor. Tire competition has always resulted in much faster speeds, higher cost, higher tire wear and more tire failures, regardless of whether we are talking F1, Indy cars, or NASCAR.
I like the move to lower profile tires with larger diameter wheels. I always thought the current wheels look way too small in proportion with the rest of the car. I don't agree with getting rid of the tire warmers, I've seen enough wrecks in other race series caused by cold tires that arent up to pressure and temperature yet. I actually think other race series would benefit from tire warmers. Getting rid of downforce is a good idea if done right, but this year in NASCAR is proof that reducing downforce doesn't help if all it does is make the car undriveable. |

AFAIK the F1 had a single tyre manufracturer for a long time in the past (AFAIK Goodyear).
A lot of the proposals sound good, especially the one to reduce aerodynamic grip. Than it the reason we see so few overtaking maneuvers. Reducing the aerodynamic grip will allow to follow an other car closely through corners giving you enough slipstream to start an overtaking maneuver. Especially the larger Tyres would be good since they produce a larger slipstream. Today the cars produce too much "used" air (turbulences) that destroys the aerodynimic of the following car. The cars have to keep a longer distance between them in the corners thus making it impossible to overtake What bothers me is the amount of preproduced parts. F1 was always about High Tech and innovations, testing the limits and such. FIA produced parts recudce this aspect of F1.

Out of all of this, they should only implement bringing back the slicks.
