Kostya Tszyu vs Ricky Hatton
This Saturday on Showtime. Anyone else going to watch this? I like Hatton a lot for an up and coming fighter, and I think he could beat a lot of guys out there.....but not Tszyu. I think Kostya will knock the hell out of him. The only way Hatton makes it through the fight is if he shows a chin of granite. If he does that, then who knows?

I saw Hatton fight Gilbert Quiros in 2000 when I was in Detroit for a training program. Got free tickets, so we went and checked it out.
Most casual fight fans don't know anything about Hatton, but don't underestimate him. Solid puncher, solid hitter, and if anyone is going to knock Tszyu into retirement at age 40, IMO Hatton is the guy to do that. Hatton is a very good fighter, 39-0 I believe, (38-0? Don't have time to look, gotta leave for work) and been through every big UK prospect there has been. Micheal Stewart was supposed to be a monster, Hatton put him down in 5. Tszyu is a vet, and IMO wins the fight, but if he comes in too easily with Hatton, he will lose the fight. I personally can't wait till Cotto steps up and fights Tszyu, but we may never see that in our lifetimes. =) |

Problem with Cotto is size. He's bursting at the seams at 140.
This Hatton fight according to boxrec.com (Which right now is way jacked up, if anyone visits this site, how do you access the news articles now?) will setup a superfight with Oscar at 147. He's 40 years old after all, win or lose, it will take alot of money to get him in the right with the reward vs risk factor for fighting a guy like Cotto. Just like Hopkins, I never thought Hopkins would take the Taylor fight for the little amount of money he's going to make. (As opposed to a HUGE fight with Winky, or moving up and fighting Tarver or Johnson, which he's talked about more then once) but stranger things have happened. |

Anyway, I'm hoping for a great fight tonight. Hatton has never faced anyone near this caliber, and I'm hoping he's worked on his defense a bit, as he'll need it. If he can give Tszyu a good, solid fight, I'll be very impressed.
Both of them seem to have solid chins, but Tszyu undoubtedly punches a lot harder and is much more accurate.

Ive never seen Kostya treated like that. Damn.
I'd like to pay tribute to Kostya for a spectacular career (if he retires or not). He is a true champion of the ring. No ego, no trashtalking, just respect. Truly one of the greats in any fans estimation. Having said that, Hatton was one tough mother!!! He just kept moving, kept coming into Kostya. He fought like a brawler, just raw energy the whole time. Anyone who can walk into Kostya's range like that and not die is doing well. Great fight.

Wow. That was amazing. Every single round was just toe to toe. Hats off to Hatton for really taking it to him. Made him quit! Kostya, of all people, is the last guy I'd ever expect to quit on his stool.
I thought the fight was pretty close at that point; the scorecards had been very close for the entire fight. If Kostya could have won the 11th and 12th, he might have been able to win. He must have really been hurting. I'm really impressed with Hatton and feel great for him. Now I can't wait for the Cotto fight on the 11th. And we also have the Mayweather/Gatti and Hopkins/Taylor fights coming up. Good times.

dunno if you guys heard but as of last week, kosta had been diagnosed with swelling of the brain after the fight. nothing permanent, but retrospectively speaking, im glad his trainers called the fight off.

Hat off to a true champion. Kostas' legacy lives on regardless of whether he fights again or not.
