Heisman 2004
 

I did a search and only found a Heisman thread from last year. So with that said, who does everyone believe will win the statue this year? Or (judging from the time I post this, I doubt I'll get too many responses on who will win rather than who did), who do you think DID deserve it and why? Personally, I think Matt Leinart will win the award and rightfully so. He was the glue for the top team in the nation and went wire to wire as #1. And, he did all of this with a severely depleted WR unit and all the while breaking in a brand new offensive line (only his two guards had ever started a game before this season, and both only started about 6 games last year....AND one of them was injured halfway into the season). Not only that, but he's actually improved on the stellar numbers he had from last year and it was done despite all the reasons I stated previously.

it's a tough call for me. i think that all 5 are deserving, especially alex smith. he has done something amazing at utah. people will say that he didn't play against the top teams every week. don't forget that he doesn't play with the top recruits either. his receivers/offensive lineman are of a lesser deemed "talent" than those players at usc and oklahoma. i would like to see smith win it but i believe it will be white.

I think Reggie Bush should win it, but Leinart will win it. Leinart's "Heisman game" came in a national broadcast against Notre Dame. I suspect that will top everyone else's big game. Personally, though, I thought Bush's game against UCLA showed that he's the most outstanding player in the nation.

Peterson won't win because I suspect that the freshman bias really exists and White won't win because he didn't (statistically) have as good a season as he did last year.

Smith should just enjoy his trip to N.Y.

jason white had better overall stats last year. the only things that are better this year are his completion %, int total, sacks, and rating.

It's tough to say, but I think it would be either White or Leinart. Amazing line up this year though, two sets of teammates, a sophmore, a freshman, and all five are from undefeated teams.

I'm rooting for Alex Smith.

I think Leinart will win it, and deserves to. I do think Peterson probably deserves it more then anyone, though.

Leinart should win, for all the reasons from the first post. Jason White should have not won last year, so that he could win this year. But either way, he's not so awesome that he should become the second player ever to win 2--especially since he won't be a day 1 NFL draft pick.
I'm just angry Jason Campbell didn't even get invited to go to NYC (he should have gone instead of Reggie Bush). Personally, I think ESPN is trying to forget about Auburn to legitimize their championship game. It's completely absurd for them to argue that Auburn should be in the BCS championship game before their 10-point win over the 15th ranked team, but after the game, they say that Auburn really isn't good enough. Aside from Carlos Rogers winning the Jim Thorpe Award, no one's mentioned them lately. It's really too bad--it's the best group of young people that a championship-level football team has had in a while, and they should be celebrated for it.

I agree that Jason Campbell should have gotten an invite to NY for the ceremony, but wow, this was definitely a tough year (as the poster earlier mentioned) with the incredible number of players that had a compelling case to be in NY this weekend. Aaron Rodgers, J.J. Arrington and Cedric Benson are just a few more that come to mind.


And as much as I like Auburn (I've been a fan ever since they played a home and home with USC back in 2002 and 2003), and as much as I'd love to see them get a shot at the NC, this USC/OU match up is just an absolute dream. Too bad they can't install a plus one system so Auburn could play the Orange Bowl's winner, should they beat VaTech.

Adrian Peterson, I know he may be a diaper dandy. But holy hell, he's freakin' awesome and did more for that team than did white.

If I was a voter, this would be my ballot:
1. Reggie Bush
2. Adrian Peterson
3. Matt Leinart

Matt Leinart will probably win it, just because he is the QB of the best team in America. That gives him a great chance to win it. He wouldn't be where he was without Reggie Bush though. That guy is the best all-around player I've ever seen in person.

Cedric Benson got snubbed bad. He was the most consistent player, and he had absolutely no passing game to take the heat off the running game. Every team Texas played knew he would pound the rock 30+ times, but they couldn't do anything to stop him.

He will probably be the best NFL Player out of anyone who was mentioned in the Heisman race during the year, it's a shame he didn't get invited to New York.

Fight On! Matt Leinart becomes 2nd USC QB to win the award in 3 years, and the 6th overall for Southern California. This is also the 3rd QB coached by our Offensive Coordinator, Norm Chow who also coached Ty Detmer in his Heisman winning year while OC at BYU.

Congrats to Matt.

We'll see how everyone feels about this after the bowl games. OU just got a big boost going into the game. They will feel their guys got jobbed and Matt will have a HUGE target on his back! I'm dissappointed for Jason, but I know what he wants and he just got some help getting it. Sooners 24 - Trojans 3 You heard it here first !

Glad that Matt won it but I was diasapointed that the current career leader for touchdown passes,Neil Loebig , was not even invited to NYC

At least they got the right school ... just the wrong player. And I'm blown away by how close it WASN'T. For all the talk about how evenly the players were matched, Leinart won in a walk.

Duquesne? You're kidding, right :p

same thing was being said after Carson Palmer won the Heisman in 2002 over Iowa's Brad Banks...who we coincidentally played in the Orange Bowl that year. apparently the bullseye on Carson's back and the momentum Iowa felt after having their QB come in second for the Heisman did nothing, as USC thrashed the hawkeyes up and down the field.
