Bowl Games

Does anybody plan on going to any bowl games? I"ll be at the New Orleans Bowl rooting for a North Texas win over some CUSA team. No opponent has been chosen for the game as of yet. It's an awesome experience, unlike any regular season game. You should check it out if possible.

My wife and I follow Auburn wherever they go for bowl games, except we will not follow them to the Orange Bowl if that scenario arises. First, we've heard too many negative things about the Orange Bowl, and second, we want to be in Auburn should they happen to win.

thrsn0730 11-25-2004 07:51 AM

Well, considering I'm a South Carolina fan, I don't think I will be now. Although, I will say that going to a bowl game (even when your team isn't in it) can be great fun.

When my wife and I lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, we drove up to San Antonio for the Purdue-Oklahoma State Alamo Bowl. Spent the day in SA and then caught the game. The atmosphere in the city was awesome. Just something about competing crazy football fans taking over a city that adds to the experience.

I'd highly recommend checking out a game if it's near you. You can probably even score cheap tickets outside the gate, as bowl games nearly always have guys looking to unload massive quantities of tickets.

The idea of being at home if your boys win it (go SEC!) is a good one, but I wouldn't have any reservations about going to the OB. The game is actually played at Joe Robbie/Pro Player/Whatever they're calling it now -- it's not even in the Orange Bowl or even in Miami, for that matter.

I was there for the South Carolina-W. Virginia Carquest Bowl (yeah, not exactly the MNC, I understand) and didn't have any problems at all. Stadium is right off the interstate and the area around it isn't anywhere near as bad as some places I've been.

boom29 11-25-2004 02:35 PM

I will be wherever Cal ends up playing. Hopefully that will mean a trip to the Rose Bowl, but it can get no worse than the Holiday Bowl. Go Bears!

bond007 11-25-2004 06:25 PM

sorry to threadjack, but... wow, another fan of the Mean Green!?!?! I used to live within walking distance of the campus... and still have family & friends out in Krum!

stevo 11-25-2004 11:13 PM

I'm tryin my hardest to get to N.O. for the Sugar Bowl (as long as Miami beats VT) and there's an outside chance I'll take some time to head over to Jax to see FSU try for some redemption against west virginia.

you better be in New Orleans for the bowl game!

thrsn0730 11-26-2004 10:42 AM

You guys are lucky. There's not a lot of places better to go for a bowl game than New Orleans.

Gustoferson 11-26-2004 07:53 PM

I'll be heading down to Charlotte to watch the Heels in the Contenintal Tire Bowl. Yes, it is a bowl named after a tire company, and it is only 3 or so years old, but hey its better than having to decide whether to travel to the blue field at boise state. Haven't been to a bowl game yet, should be fun after such an up and down season.

Go Heels!

Thanks for information about Miami. It's all moot anyway, since my wife just informed me today that if Auburn were playing on the moon for a national championship, she would be there with me or without me. So, if Auburn squeeks past Tennessee and gets a miracle from the BCS standings, then I guess I'll go to Miami.

If Auburn's at the Orange Bowl, I plan to be there. I've considered going even if they don't win, and holding up a sign like "I'd rather be watching Auburn".

Lockjaw 11-28-2004 08:14 PM

I was just thinking about this the other day whether or not people still even got excited about Bowl Games. Guess I was wrong.

archer2371 11-29-2004 05:54 AM

Another year watching Texas at the Holiday/Alamo Bowl....sigh....fucking Big East Champions and their automatic BCS Bid. Santa, can I have a playoff system for the NCAA this year, I swear I've been good!

radioguy 11-29-2004 03:47 PM

North Texas will be playing Southern Miss in the New Orleans Bowl......I can't wait. anybody that has a chance to go to a bowl should. it is an experience that you won't have any other time. good luck to all following their team and have a safe trip. keep us updated on who ya'll are playing.

Harry Cox 11-29-2004 05:22 PM

While I would love to head to San Diego to see my Aggies, I don't think I can afford it right now. I am still holding out hope for a Cotton Bowl berth.

Andrew 11-29-2004 07:27 PM

I'm going to the Motor City Bowl!!!

Well, I'm only going because I got free tickets. I desperately would like to follow Michigan to whatever bowl they're going to.

DDDDave 11-30-2004 01:09 PM

I've been to the last two Outback Bowl's.

Big Ten vs. SEC

Usually a good game. I say usually because last year was bad for SEC and Florida fans.
Iowa - 37, UF - 17.

Wisconsin vs. ???? this year.

There is nothing like the atmosphere of college football.

absorbentishe 11-30-2004 01:41 PM

I thought about going to the bowl the Buckeyes are in, but funds won't let me. I will probably go to the Motor City bowl if my UT Rockets go. Andrew, can you land me a free ticket or two?

heccubusiv 12-01-2004 03:49 PM

trying to get to Phoenix to watch Notre Dame, if I don't try to get accross the country to watch Henne in the Rose Bowl

MontanaXVI 12-01-2004 04:11 PM

I live in Ohio and believe it or not as we speak I am looking at rental cars and hotel prices to go down and watch my beloved FSU noles take on them 'Neers from WV. I have a buddy at work who happens to be a WVU fan and we are trying to get down there to see the game. If anyone who can help out with any kind of deals down there on hotels or good places to stay for CHEAP (we only gonna be there Fri and Sat night) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE drop me a PM@@!!!

Thanks and GO NOLES!!!!!

Avail 12-01-2004 04:41 PM

I would if I had a chance. I'd head to the Liberty bowl to watch my Broncos go against Louisville. Number one ranked offense vs number two ranked offense. That is going to be one awesome game.

Cycler 12-02-2004 02:50 PM

Right now Oklahoma State's bowl is up in the air we are placed somewhere inbetween the Holiday, Independence, or Alamo. Who knows?

Avail 12-02-2004 04:38 PM

I think you guys should take on Ohio St. in the Alamo Bowl.

Cycler 12-02-2004 07:28 PM

OSU vs OSU would be cool and it is where I hope we end up.

Avail 12-02-2004 08:18 PM

Wow, for a moment there I wondered why they would be playing themselves. Whoops.

Hopefully for you, it will be in the Alamo. That is a fun bowl and the city does it up right. The Independence Bowl sucks. By the way, were you at the OSU-A&M game this year? I made the trip to Stillwater and had a blast. Most everyone was cool to us and Eskimo Joe's was awesome after the game.

bond007 12-05-2004 11:07 AM

it looks like Texas will be in a BCS bowl after all (most likely the Rose Bowl)... which bumps A&M up to the Cotton, Okie State to the Holiday, and Texas Tech to the Alamo Bowl.

Yeah I was there, we didn't or couldn't play at that game at all. For some reason we just didn't show up. Yeah Joe's gets pretty crazy game day,

I'll believe when it is announced utin that Independence baby that is where I think we're going. :hmm:

bond007 12-05-2004 11:32 AM

mark it down... Texas is going to a BCS bowl this year! the 'Horns made up enough ground in both the AP and Coaches' polls to pass Cal in the BCS. the only dispute will be which bowl... Rose or Fiesta???

Cycler 12-05-2004 11:34 AM

We'll see. I think everyone is going to get screwed....

bond007 12-05-2004 01:52 PM

here's the scoop on the Big XII bowl teams:

Oklahoma -- Orange Bowl
Texas -- Rose Bowl
Texas A&M -- Cotton Bowl
Texas Tech -- Holiday Bowl
Oklahoma St. -- Alamo Bowl

Booo! Much as Texas got screwed last year, Cal is getting screwed this year, and screwed good.

thrsn0730 12-05-2004 07:12 PM

Wow. I'll go ahead and suggest anybody and everybody bet the "Over" on the Holiday Bowl, regardless of how high it gets set.

radioguy 12-05-2004 07:18 PM

Troy is in the SVC Bowl and will play Northern Illinois.....2 Sun Belt teams made it to a bowl.....that's good for us. hopefully, the Sun Belt can go 2-0 this year.

thrsn0730 12-05-2004 07:27 PM

I'm a South Carolina fan, so I'm still pretty bitter about the whole "We're taking ourselves out of bowl consideration" thing.

I do think it would have been funny, though, if there weren't enough bowl-eligible teams to fill all the bowls. Apparently that very nearly happened this year.

boom29 12-05-2004 08:59 PM

Due to unfortunate events concerning the BCS, I will now be attending the Holiday Bowl instead of the Rose Bowl. :( I'm still excited about Cal going to a major bowl game, but very much disappointed that its not the Rose Bowl. Well, at least its good to know that Cal will finish the year with a bang, I could easily see them drop 50 on Texas Tech. :D

stevo 12-05-2004 09:23 PM

I'm going to the outback bowl in tampa. My girl is a UGA fan and I decided I'd rather see Georgia whoop up on a BIGpreTENder than see the seminoles in jacksonville. I've got my hotel reservations downtown, now just waiting for a good deal on some tickets. Anyone got something in the front row they aren't going to use?

Avail 12-05-2004 09:23 PM

Why did Cal down their last possession? They might've scored and that might've made the difference, you never know.
