Ho-ly shit.
Not that it matters for this year, but I think this will be the best thing in the long run.

Hasn't this been inevitable for the last few years?
I've never really thought that much of him, as a coach that is, and it seems I'm not alone. For all the Dolphin fans here, I have to ask... Is Wannstedt leaving a good thing? More importantly, who would you like to see replace him?

Miami is embarrasing this year, but it's not the coach's fault. It almost never is.
but anyway... How about Pittsburgh??? For how long has Cowthers head been on the block and this year he finally pulls some magic out! Unbelievable. Anyone who doubted if the Steelers were for real can't doubt it now after the last two weeks. Two incredible and convincing wins... Who is this Roethsberger (sp?) A genius. I'd love to see Pitts go all the way...

Spurrier would be a definite downgrade from Dave and that's saying a lot. The Fins are gonna be screwed for the next couple years. With David Boston and possibly Junkie Williams returning next year, the Dolphins definitely don't have the leadership to create a team environment. I'm just waiting for them to sign Ryan Leaf to complete the mediocrity circle. |

Here's an interesting scenario.
The Dolphins don't have a running game now. In the offseason they sign Drew Brees. They have two very good receivers now in Booker and Chambers, plus will be getting Boston back. They hire Spurrier as coach. He installs the Fun 'n' Gun there. Might be interesting, if unlikely to happen. Wouldn't be suprised to see Spurrier coaching there anyway, though.

Why can't Butch Davis resign?????? Get Policy back and try to find a way to get Bernie Kosar on the staff, get Walsh, Schottenheimer, Shula and Belichick as head coaches/ advisors.
They'd turn Cleveland around. Until Cleveland gets rid of Davis and shakes the NFL world up by doing drastic moves, the Brownies will forever be in the basement, pointing fingers and having 7 yard punts.

Can you imagine the egos that would explode if you had all those guys trying to "advise". They do need a new head coach and GM though. I think the names Couch, Brown, Warren, and Green should be enough to figure that out. BTW...thanks for the win after we gave you a free touchdown and kicked field goals for three quarters

Hell, any team that punts for 7 yards deserves to be in pee-wee flag football not the NFL.
Yeah I think a combination of Walsh, Schottenheimer, Shula and Belichick would be an egomaniacal disaster. But, they know how to win.... I'd be happy with just one of them.

As a dolphin fan, I will say, He is a nice guy, (from what I hear) a "player's coach" but, he doesnt have what it takes to coach at this level. He would be a GREAT college coach, and most likely will almost definitly get a job as a head coach next season. But in a huge market like miami, Its unacceptable, Hence most fans hatred for him. Me, Im happy there is a change, and Im looking foward to better things! Go Phins! |

Miami should of known that this was gonna happen. Wannstedt ran the great Chicago Bears into the ground, and he has done the same thing for the Miami Dolphins. He just should of stayed a Defenseive Coordinator. I hope this guy doesn't get another head coaching job again.

This failure couldn't have happened to a nicer guy....He is one smug sonofabitch that deserves every professional failure that comes his way....Several years ago (as the coach of the Bears) on a Monday or Sunday night game, he was asked by the interviewer what steps he could take to make his team better....His reply was that perhaps joining the AFC East would make the most difference....yeah, he's an asshole and I'm a Bills fan that holds a little grudge.....One should note that the year he made the statement, I believe 3 or 4 teams from the AFC East made the playoffs....When DW went to the dolphags, it could have only served to make me despise him more since I'm sure you are all aware that the longest consecutive winning streak by one team over another is dolphins over bills 20 straight wins in the 70's....My two favorite teams.....The Bills and whoever is playing the dolphins

uhh 3 or 4 teams making the playoffs from AFC East? that means either 3 wildcard teams made it (impossible) or both wildcard teams were from the same conference (i would guess also impossible due to number of in-conference games)...so check your stats
i can make no statement on the mans character myself, but i hear he is an incredible gentleman off the field. As a coach, i think he blows. He inhereted a championship caliber team from Jimmy Johnson, and drove it into the ground. As for replacements, im not sure. Spurrier has taken his hat out of the ring, and thank god. Not cut out for NFL. Im thinking maybe the pats defensive coordinater, romeo cromell, would be good |

He is a great defensive coach but sucks at personel decisions. I say the will get Drew Brees and draft a RB with their top 5 pick. Brees throwing to Chambers, Boston, Booker and McMichael should be interesting as long as they can give Brees some time and get some sort of a running game going. Travis Henry would be a nice pick up as well

The Dolphins would have sucked this year, regardless of their coach. And they will likely suck next year also.
I don't know much about Dave's coaching ability, but I do know that the Dolphins are lacking talent-wise, and until they take serious steps to improve, it isn't going to matter who's coaching them. They will still be a losing team. |

It's amazing they put up with him for this long really. The real intersting thing will certainly be who they bring in. There has been a lot of belief that Spurrier would be lining up for it since he has veto'd a return to UF. I'd almost feel worse for my friends who are Fin fans.
And I think a lot of teams will be in the running for Drew Brees. Although it makes no sense, you can bet he will be the one to go this offseason. The Chargers put too much money and publicity in to Rivers. I actually like Brees and hope he gets to go somewhere that he can thrive and be valued. It must suck to be playing so well and knowing that everyone is just waiting for you to throw a few picks to justify replacing you with the new poster child.

Losing ricky will had a lot to do with that. youd think that if a guy, central to that team's offense knew he was gonna retire, youd tell your team early in the offseason, but he waits like 2 weeks before the season starts. The fish had always had trouble scoring, but take away a guy who rushed for 1200 yards in each of the last 2 seasons, and you are gonna be in trouble.

I'm glad to see wannie go. He's run that team into the ground, just as he did to the bears. Hopefully spurrier won't come down south, if he does end up coaching my 'fins I'll have a lot of soul searching to do before I sit down and watch a game with that dockers wearing, visor-fag on the sideline.
I think Phil Rivers is the best qb since Joe Montana. I know thats saying a lot and I'll probably get some guff for that, but you wait and see. that kid is awesome. If he gets to Miami it'll be the best day ever. |
