Does Bonds win the MVP again?

Is he deserving?

Is there any argument to discount his stats?

Will the votes go to someone else who hasn't won before just because.

Jimellow 10-22-2004 09:29 AM

I think the main argument in opposition to Bonds getting the MVP is that he isn't a likeable guy and portrays an image of himself that he is above the fans and the game itself.

However, this shouldn't factor in to MVP voting, so he will likely get it, however I don't know if it is tougher to win it consecutive years or not, so that may be a factor?

Mojo_PeiPei 10-22-2004 09:31 AM

Who knows, Beltre did get his team to the playoffs. Sadly the 3 big guys from murderers row take away from each other.

dbc 10-22-2004 11:40 AM

He wins it without question. How can anyone claim to be more valuable than him?

Mojo_PeiPei 10-22-2004 11:44 AM

Beltre, because he made his team, and got them to the playoffs... Bonds was the most valuble, be he didn't get them there.

Halx 10-22-2004 12:02 PM

While Bonds had another incredible year, I think Beltre gets it both because SOME votes will go to him because people think Bonds has won enough, and because he deserves it just as much.

Dingo2879 10-22-2004 12:10 PM

It's definatley deserving, he is a factor in everygame. Without him there is no way the Giants would have been in it as long as they were. But.... I have to admit, after all the allegations surrounding him, and that S.I. article a few weeks ago, I am not sure. I know that the M.V.P is for on field actions only, but more and more after hearing all this negative press on the guy it's getting harder to respect what he does on the field.

aliali 10-22-2004 01:53 PM

No votes for any of the Cards? Pujols, Rolen?

Mojo_PeiPei 10-22-2004 02:07 PM

They all take votes away from each other.

Cross-Over 10-22-2004 04:11 PM

I think Bonds deserves to and will win the MVP.

Teams are afraid to pitch to him, they walked him an insane amount of times. His base on balls were not earned entirely out of respect, he has an excellent sense of the strike zone. Bonds also led the NL in hitting, was top 5 in homers, and drove in over 100 runs. Defensively, he is an avearage fielder. Beltre has an advantage here, but Pujlos really doesnt.

Kurant 10-22-2004 06:17 PM

I think Bonds wins it also. Cross-Over covered everything.

yankeefatboy 10-22-2004 10:18 PM

Barry Bonds has the personality of a snail. However, there is no one that is more feared/respected in baseball than Bonds. If he had been pitched to more, the numbers would be amazing. Sorry, but Bonds is the MVP.

Konichiwaneko 10-23-2004 09:55 PM

ted williams I think had the personality of snail, so did many of the hall of famers. Ty cobb?

I think Bonds had an excellent year. Belltre definately is a contender, but I think the arguement is going to be "Helped a Team" against "Is the Team".

Barry has stats that whole teams didn't have

CheesePizzaMan 10-24-2004 11:07 AM

Every pitcher in the NL would vote bonds as the MVP. So would every manager not named Tony. However, I hope he gets snubbed because of the steroid issue.

kutulu 10-25-2004 10:48 AM

As much as I hate the guy and the team he plays for, I think he deserves it. They might as well call it the Barroids award and have an almostMVP award for the next best guy in the NL.

All you have to do is look at the numbers: .362/.609/.812/1.422

All time record for OBP. He was 3 HR short of leading the league and he did it with 200AB less than the guys ahead of him.

yoyoyobro 10-25-2004 12:22 PM

If A-Rod could take it with the Rangers then Bonds has to bring home the hardware this year

aerozeppelin 10-25-2004 02:26 PM

Even more than Bonds' numbers, look at how disruptive to the other team he is. No one pitches to him, the other team fears him, etc.... - he can destroy a team's game plan without even swinging his bat. Plus, you have to factor in someone's value to their team. Beltre and Bonds are both key to their teams, but I think that the Dodgers rely less on Beltre than the Giants do on Bonds (Pujols is out mostly because of this category - too much depth on the Cards). Overall, Bond's intimidation factor, more than his numbers (which are astronomical), lock up his MVP.

kutulu 10-25-2004 03:48 PM

If pitchers were to pitch to Barry like they do to everyone else, he would have hit 60 no problem this year.

BadForm 10-26-2004 05:46 PM

It's got to be Bonds. His numbers dwarf everyone elses and his team was in the race until the final weekend.

wolfpack0102 10-27-2004 09:03 PM

yeshe should get MVP again

guy44 10-27-2004 10:36 PM

Clearly it is Bonds. Look, the award is not "Best player to take his team to the playoffs." It isn't any one player's fault that the other players around him may not be good. Bonds so completely dominated the league that he simply must be voted MVP. It's nice to see so many people thinking this one out. I'd hate for him to lose it because, like happened often with the Mick, the BBWAA just got tired of giving it to him.

monkeydriven 10-28-2004 07:08 AM

Pujols, Bonds is steroid enhanced.

kutulu 10-28-2004 12:48 PM

Although I personally believe that Bonds is steroid enhanced, where has it been proven beyond some reasonable doubt that he has taken steroids? He's been tested by the league and we haven't heard anything negative about the results.

Pujols is no stick boy either.
