The Umps finally get it right!
If you saw the Sox/Yankees game you know what I mean. They got the right call when they reversed the double into a home run and they got it right when they ruled that Rodriguez knocked the ball and glove out of the pitchers hand.
I would have been so wrong if the Yankees would have won because of two bad calls that were clear on the replays. It would have just reinforced the "curse of the Bamino" and that's all you would hear about the next year.

it is great to see the umpires get the calls right when it matters. i could really care less if they get it right initially or if they correct it with an umpires conference, but the most important thing is clearly they get it right.
this is the best result of the umpires union being broken a few years back. the egos are a lot smaller now, and they make sure to get the calls right in most situations. |

Yes, I agree completely.
Oftentimes the umpires are stubborn and don't review, let alone, overturn calls. They definitely did the right thing here, and if they hadn't, can you imagine the ripple effect this would have had through the media, fans, and TV outlets? Last night I was talking to my dad, and told him it would be interesting if a Boston journalist would write an article as if the play hadn't been overturned, and ultimately led to the Red Sox losing the series. It was the first time I've seen a play like that, and I have to give props to the umpires for stepping back, talking, and making the right decision at a key moment. Game 7 tonight is going to be THE game this year IMO, and I'm sure the ratings for it will be through the roof. |

Well my friend, many games are won and lost on bad calls that once we see the replay, we know the opposite. Bad calls/no calls are part of any game, you can't throw in the replay card unless you're talking football. |

I for one favor adding technology (i.e. replay review, sensors under home plate) to take out as many of the bad calls as possible. An experiment could be done in spring training games to see how to make it work best. No more umps saying "that's MY strike zone", no more bad calls deciding the big games. I know the argument about the human element being a big part of the game; I just don't accept that it has to stay that way.
The crew last night did great in getting it right, but I don't understand why the ump in the outfield has to get help on those calls? Same thing happened on a home run call in the first round (don't remember exactly which game, but I think it was Yankees and Twins); the guy closest to it missed the call. |

I have to hand it to the umpires, I was sitting there watching there thinking that there is no way that they could reverse the call considering the amount of time that it took them to make both calls, but they proved me wrong and I must hand it to them for that. BUT how in god's good name did the the ump miss that homerun? I caught it out of the corner of my eye and still knew that it was gone, a ball doesn't hit the outfield wall and just trickle down like it did after hitting that fan.

I was glad to see the umps making the correct calls. I for one would *HATE* to see replays in baseball. That's what makes the game unique. The fact that every ump calls balls and strikes differently allows better matchups. The way things are now should be fine as long as the umps are willing to reverse a call if necessary. From watching last nights game, I think they are on the right track.
