Schling's Status

Anyone know his status for Game 6 or 7?

dylanmarsh 10-18-2004 07:14 PM

He's starting game 6

MacGuyver 10-18-2004 07:14 PM

He's up to pitch against Lieber tomorrow. I guess he has this new shoe from reebok with an uber high ankle support thing or whatever. They were talking about it on FOX. Yay FOX. He was throwing in the bullpen tonight.

jamessh1 10-18-2004 07:42 PM

It will be interesting to see how he rebounds from his last performance against the yanks. He could be the deciding factor in game 6.

Jimellow 10-18-2004 08:11 PM

He sucked last time out, and it was clear something was wrong physically.

Hopefully he really is good to go tomorrow, and isn't letting his heart get in the way of reality.

I realize he wants to pitch badly, but if he isn't going to have power off his back foot, he probably is going to have a poor outing.

dylanmarsh 10-18-2004 08:29 PM

Word out of Gammons tonight is the Sox to get 4 to 5 innings out of Schilling with Arroyo taking over after that. It would be a helluva story if Curt pitched 8 shutout innings and Foulke wraps it up in the 9th.

GAME 7 MUST HAPPEN. THE SOX NEED TO AVENGE AARON BOONE'S WALK-OFF AND SEND JETER HOME FOR ONCE.

edit: This is definitely a much better situation than last year. The Sox had to start John Burkett for Game 6. I think Schilling with a bum ankle or no ankle, is an upgrade. Should be a heck of a fight.

Boston doesn't really have an option at this point. Their bullpen is depleted, and they've had to resort to throwing two starters here in game 5.

Go Curt.

the Yankees bullpen is hurting just as bad if not worse..

Mojo_PeiPei 10-19-2004 07:24 AM

Doesn't matter really about Yank's vs. Sox pitching here. One thing that is the issue is the Bosox have not brought their bats with them, and the Yanks have.

goppers 10-19-2004 08:31 AM

all depends on the ankle I think. If schilling is who he was in game one the sox don't stand a chance. If he is schilling is himself he should put them in a good position to win. I don't feel good about this start for some reason. Of course, I felt great about the game one start and couldn't have been more wrong, so hopefully I'll be wrong again.

The Yankees have 2 aces in their bullpen--Vasquez and Loaiza. They can pitch longer than Boston. Both Flash Gordon and Mariano Rivera can close games, even if Rivera hasn't shown it lately. The Red Sox' bullpen has done a whole lot better than expected, but they haven't had to close a game yet. It's a different kind of pressure, and we'll see if they can do it in New York.

yoyoyobro 10-19-2004 02:55 PM

Hope he comes and shuts the yanks down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

germanguy 10-19-2004 04:34 PM

Schilling will shut out the Yankees for 7 innings

meembo 10-19-2004 05:04 PM

the bloody pictures of the ankle tonight was hard to watch

Serpent 10-19-2004 10:17 PM

What was the injury that caused him to bleed? i thought it was some sort of achilles injury..

Glory's Sun 10-20-2004 05:48 AM

from what I understand the blood was from the shots that he was receiving

runtuff 10-20-2004 05:57 AM

Actually it was from stitches he had in or to the ankle to stabilize the tendon that is subluxing. I guess the stitches are helping hold the tendon sheath together so the tendon does not move. Usually the patient is casted after this type procedure for several weeks to allow the tendon sheath to heal.

Schilling's gutsy performance last night was the stuff of legends.

yoyoyobro 10-20-2004 01:58 PM

WOW!!!!!!!! What a performance!

Jay_Jay 10-20-2004 02:26 PM

Just saw him on ESPN say that his arm feels great today and that he would be willing to get an out or two in tonight's game. I'm sure that won't happen, but what an amazing competitor. Truly has to be the greatest pitching performances that I have ever seen, I have the utmost respect for him.
