Will the AHL do well this year?
Since there is going to be hardly any NHL this year, if theres any at all, do you think the AHL and other minor league hockey venues will benefit from this? Is there a possibility of AHL games being televised or pros playing in the minors a few games? I'm hoping true hockey fans will go out and see whatever games they can since the pros will be off and boost the revenue of the minors.

Yeah I went to a bunch of there games last year too. Im just hoping that with the lockout of the NHL, that the fan base may grow a little more and maybe even get some games televised.
By the Way, Mikey, you must be from the NY/NJ area like me as well since you seem to NOT like all the teams I DO like. Im a Mets, Jets, Nets, Islanders fan and it seems your pretty much the other NY team for every sport. |

Mosha: Yup, I'm from Long Island. Growing up, it was all the teams I hated (Isles, Mets) who were doing well and winning championships and my teams stinking it up.
So it's nice to see MY teams (Yanks, Rangers, Bills) win a few now and then. -Mikey |

If the NHL lockout lasts for quite a while it should be interesting to watch the AHL hockey. I think around 25% of NHLer's have gone to Europe, but does anyone know an approximation of the players going to the AHL. I'm hoping my local manitoba moose will have a decent team this year......

Players with two way contracts get to go to the AHL. Meaning players that were always up and down with the NHL club are playing in the AHL. Players with one way contracts can go to other leagues that have no afilliation to the NHL and play. Most have chosen Europe, some have gone to Canada, and a few have chosen to go to some of the smaller U.S. pro leagues.
The AHL is always good hockey. Players that are hungry to make an impression or get the big club to notice them are always the most fun. Good fights, hitting, and scoring. Cheaper to watch too. As for TV, I believe that the local sports stations are going to be showing more AHL games this year. I have heard that Comcast in Philly is planning on showing quite a few. |
