Who has love for the Oakland A's?

Am I alone in my love of the Oakland Athletics? Losing to Seattle last night killed me and I need to comiserate with others.

I have a ton of love for the Athletics, especially if the Red Sox face them in the playoffs. The A's gave the Sox a nice warm-up for the Yankees last year. Hopefully the A's will help the Sox get ready for the ALCS again.

And yes, you might be alone with your love of the A's with their attendance being less than 20k for a key division match-up against the Rangers.

As much as I hate the Sox, I'll root for the Yankees in a heartbeat over that obnoxious team and their self-pitying fans. Jeez, it only took Florida a few years to win *two* World Series, and Arizona won on not long after they entered the league. Yet the Sox manage to fuck it up year after year. The fact the Sox won't get past the Yankees i the playoffs will console me if the A's don't go to the World Series.

But you're right about the lack of fan support. However, if you've ever been to the Coliseum, you'll understand why.

The A's have never truly had the respect of the fans. Dating back to their beginning in Philly, it was always more about the Phillies (which I don't understand they are one of the losingest teams % wise in baseball, and Connie Mack had great players on his team).

The lack of respect in Philly forced the move to KC where they didn't last.

Then when they were great in the early 70's they were overshadowed by the Pirates, Dodgers, Reds, Yankees, Orioles teams of that era.

I am a big A's fan, but they need to find their niche in the Bay area or move up the coast to Portland, Vancouver or inland to Vegas. They have a great pitching staff (have pretty much always been a team reliant on pitching when they are winning), and still people talked about the Cubs, Astros and Red Sox staffs and would say "oh yeah there's the A's staff."

I would love to see the A's in the playoffs and series. Hudson, Mulder, Zito a truly great staff deserving of a WS ring.

I just love people who use the excuse "I use/do this because I LOVE the feeling/joy/happiness it brings me" and expect you to be ok with that as you watch them destroy their life blindly following. My response is, "I like to put forks in an eletrical socket, just LOVE that feeling, can't ever get enough of it, so will you let me put this copper fork in that electric socket?"

/me is an A's fan and living in Columbus I took the ribbing from hell when the Reds swept them in the series in 90. I have never been to the Coliseum or Cali for that matter but have heard that it is a rough place to go so that might be the problem as stated above.

Sidenote I just hope they do not friggin drop the division to the Angels or Rangers before it is all said and done.

Sorry, you will not have any love from me. In fact, I have some hate . Being an Angels fan, I can tell you that these last couple weeks, with so many games between the A's and Angels is going to be exciting. It looks like the lead is going to be 2 games after today (because the Angels never score runs for Escobar) and I think as long as the lead is 2 games or less going into the head to head matchups, the Angels will have a fighting chance.

Big A's fan, and I'm gonna have another good laugh when the Angels at 2x the payroll of the A's don't make it into the playoffs.

Of COURSE the coloseum is fucking ghetto--its in OAKLAND! Oakland fucking sucks unless you live in the hills. But what other stadium gives out tickets for 2 bucks (used to be 1 till my last year living in the bay), sells 1 dollar hotdogs, is accessable to those to broke to keep a car (read--ghetto, or in college), and does holds a team that does more with less than any other team in the majors on a consistent basis. The As aren't gonna win the WS this year without a hell of a lotta luck, but its sure fun to sit back and watch the Mets and other teams with huge payrolls struggle miserably. We'll add the Angels to that list if the As take em in the Head to Head series coming up.

And damnit, wtf is wrong with Mulder?

One more rant... I don't fucking care if the fans are ghetto (many of them are) or are obnoxious (also guilty)... you can say whatever you want about someones body weight or mama if they are PAID to fucking play BASEBALL! Francisco is lucky that chick didn't fucking shoot his fat ass... being in Oaktown and all.

I think Twins fans may take issue with the "do more with less" line. I mean they've at least made it to the ALCS during their run the last few years . As for the whole payroll thing and the Angels potentially missing the playoffs, I think the A's are extremely lucky the Angels were so decimated with injuries in the first half. If the Angels are healthy all year, then one could argue that the Angels would be in the A's position right now with maybe a bigger lead. But, the A's are where they're at behind their great pitching and impecable timing. They start to run off the wins in August and September every year like clockwork and they deserve a ton of credit for that.

Well the A's have had serious injury problems too. Chavez broke his hand, as has Dye. Hudson was out and Mark Ellis, our Gold Glove-caliber second baseman was lost for the season. And we don't have a Vlad or Jose who can fill in those holes!

And while they're not injuries, don't even get me started on how God-awful our bullpen is this year....
