So say you pick third in your Fantasy Football Draft ...
... and LaDanian Tomlinson and Priest Holmes go 1 and 2. Who do you pick? I know picking a RB is the safe/smart choice, but I feel like there is no clear #3 RB left in the pool, esp. given Ahman Green's (albeit minor) preseason injury and Jamal Lewis' upcoming trial. Clinton Portis? Washington's O-line is suspect at best. Shaun Alexander? I am so iffy on this guy. Deuce McAllister? Rushes for good yardage, but not for too many touchdowns. Edge James? Can I really pick him with my first pick and not feel a little uneasy?
Anyways, this is my dillemma as it looks like I will pick third in my upcoming draft. I am almost tempted to draft Peyton Manning or Duante Cullpepper first and avoid the first choice RB altogether, which seems foolish I know, but I just see no sure shot RB at #3 ... unless Ahman Green is healthy and ready to go. Also, would you go Randy Moss, TO, or Marvin Harrison with WR choice #1? I am leaning towards Marvin right now ... Any advice? |
Peyton Manning. He will get you 4,200 yards and 28 touchdowns AND has missed exactly ONE play from injury in his career (thanks to MMQB for those stats :))

Duce Staley could be the sleeper RB of the season. Steelers love to run and Staley is also a solid pass catcher.
|
i guess it depends on how your scoring system is. in my league there isn't a huge difference between the #1 qb and the #10 qb but there is a large dropoff between the #1 and #10 rb. i generally like to go with 2 backs that get a lot of touches and then build from there. also, if there happens to be a run and rb's than you could end up with a pretty weak rb with your #2 pick. i would go with either green or portis but off the top of my head i can't remember what is wrong with green.
also, what are people's thoughts on drafting jamal? |
The #3 overall pick is not the place for a sleeper. Save Duce for the third round and beyond. I'd go with Ahman Green. The guy is really solid. If you're worried about injuries, pick up Najeh Davenport in one of the last rounds.
As far as WRs go, I think Harrison is the choice. He doesn't quite have the potential of Randy Moss, but he's WAY more reliable. It's pretty much guaranteed he'll catch 100+ balls this year. |
Moss will lead all WR's in touchdowns and total yards.
Culpecker will be right up there stat wise with Peyton in passing, but will also get rushing yards. |
grasshopper, how many people?
|
Peyton, Duce will be around in the later rounds unless someone is a hardcore steeler fan, Shawn Alexander if he is around, he has not missed a game in like 3 or 4 seasons. But third pick take Peyton at least 2-4 touchdowns a game plus all the yards

In my league, we're really dependant on RB, and for that, I would pick Portis, or Alexander. We picked forth, but kept one from last year, and Portis is who we kept, we pick Lewis, hoping he stay out of jail until the season is over.

Never pick a QB that early - or in the first round at all. Since I am a 'Skins fan and I already think he is awesome, I would pick Portis (and did last week in my draft). But if you can't trust a Joe Gibbs RB (heh heh - Saddle 'im up!) then I would say James. I know this is counter to every "expert" in the world, but don't worry about what the experts say. The top 10 RBs have 5 new members every year. There is always a lot of turn-over and what a guy did last year is only one indicator. I think Edge is 2 years out from his knee surgery and in a CONTRACT YEAR. Oh yeah - he is only 26. In his P R I M E if you ask me.
You will take flack for the pick that early in the round, but at the end of the year when you are drinking beer out of your trophy, you can stick it up their ass. Think about it this way - the Colts are DARING teams to stack the box to stop the run. Manning will pick them apart if they try it with his very capable recievers. The daring ones win the league. |
simple green
oops wrong product green simple, the guy is going to carry the load in Green Bay I am scared of Jamal, with the possible trial. He is going to prison. He is not as smart, polished or as squeaky clean as a Kobe Bryant may be. Could be a distraction. How many people in the league. I ended up with Edge at 7 in my 12 game league |
actually it is only a 4 team league, but the stake$ are high so i don't wanna mess this one up. i am thinking i will take green, but hope that i can get manning or culpepper with number two, who do you think will be better of those two? i think culpepper could get crazy this year.
last year i picked ricky williams with the number one overall pick and while he ran for decent yardage, his touchdown totals were not that hot, esp. stacked against LT and priest. guess i dont have to worry about that this year. |
I picked up Clinton Portis with my fourth pick. LT, PH, and AG were all gone. I would of picked PH over CP of the available.
In the second round I went with a receiver. I picked up Torry Holt. Very valuable fantasy guy. Randy Moss was still available. Third round as much as I wanted to get Steve McNair, he was gone and so was Peyton Manning. I went with Chad Pennington. With the addition of Justin McCareins I think Pennington will have an outstanding year. In the later rounds I was also able to pick up, Corey Dillon, Chris Brown, and Thomas Jones, all RBs. Receivers I was able to pick up were Derrick Mason, Peter Warrick, Charles Rogers and Justin McCareins. I think my QBs will be my shortcomings. I have Aaron Brooks, Byron Leftwich, and Carson Palmer. I play in a no TE mandatory league. You can have a TE if you want or you can have three WRs. But there is no TE slot. |
I'd go with ahman green too. If jamal didnt have a trial to go through i would pick him....but since he does he will miss some games and could be a bad pick.
