Dear Carmelo Anthony,
Carmelo,
You were one of my favorite basketball players for the past two years. I have watched you in situations where your team desperately needed the skills & talents you possess to provide scoring and morale for your team. On top of this you accepted this obligation and you always seemed to smile as if this was another day playing pick-up ball. Today I am confused about whether I support you or not. On this 2004 Olympic team you are not "THE MAN"....you are just one of the guys. This team is studded with talents and athletes who all face the challenge of being Jesus (insert the name of your savior here) for their respective teams. Faced with the task of leading this group of stars is Larry Brown who you must please in order to be on the court. I urge you Carmelo to adhere to the policies of Coach Brown because you seem to fit the stereo-type of the ball players getting contracts and hype from mostly African American heritage....you appear to be self-centered. The Olympics calls for those who are self-less. YOU BEGGED TO GET ON THE TEAM. Your image is being crushed day by day and I am sure in 10 years you will regret your actions. I have great faith that your skills are top five in the league if the measure is "Putting the Ball in the Hoop". Leave that for the NBA season and get with the International Buffet the rest of the team are fitting their bibs for. I hated Michael Jordan during his day because he always beat the home team yet I would always admire his effort on both sides of the floor and the respect for him from teammates and coach which grew to levels where it seemed as though he was the coach himself. PLEASE WAKE UP!!!! If this is how you want to act you could have spent the summer in Uprtown Manhattan playing in the Entertainers Basketball Classic @ Rucker Park. Sincerely, Bookman, a fan who is starting to second guess you. Last edited by Bookman; 08-20-2004 at 10:47 AM.. |

Excellent post, but I highly doubt Carmello reads the tfp.
Team USA really needs a wake up call. As a team they're playing like shit and Carmellos arrogance is just going to hurt any type of chemistry the team already has. If they really want to win gold they all just need to put down the barriers and play cohesive basketball. Silver or bronze just wont cut it.

When watching the Australia vs USA game, I heard the announcers commenting on Carmello's "grumblings". For example, I think when a reporter asked him about what went wrong after the loss to Puerto Rico, he said something like "I don't know, I wasn't out there".
He definitely should not be complaining publicy about his playing time. However, I think (I am sure he does too) that he could split more time with Jefferson and Marion. Marion played very well last game, but as with Jefferson, he has struggled often. Anthony is a better outside shooter than Jefferson and Marion, and its no coincidence that those two are consistently being left open for perimeter shots. Larry Brown knows his team best though, and I think he has coached them very well. They are 2-1, and have a good shot at advancing to the medal round. |

Team USA looks iffy.
Not having shaq, vince, bibby, kobe, or even Ray Allen is definately costing them. Where's KG? The League MVP? I'm glad at least Tim Duncan (I'm sorry I hate him so much though.) made the trip to make the team at least credible. Odom is looking ok too. Can someone hit an open jumpshot? Please? I agree that 'Melo needs to step it up though.

If they win tomorrow against Angola, they will advance and still have an opportunity to win the Gold. Their draw will be tougher based on seeding, but they are not eliminated as of now. |

Ok, please find a GOOD piece of information to read. Dr. Seuss wrote books that were more informative then that. They were also alot more intresting then some biased writer on his soapbox.
That's a great piece of professional journalism. Last edited by Kurant; 08-22-2004 at 08:20 PM.. |

During the time leading up to the final selections Carmelo was quoted to have said these things all over the net. FYI |

He's better then half the scrubs out there, he should've gotten an invite. I'm really surprised he hasn't gotten more clock, if I remember correctly he was the team's leading scorer in exhibition, not to mention he is not afraid to take shots, and at the same time with people like Marion, Amare, and Lebron he can actually make them.

Yeah the Olympic team needed another nondefender on the team, who does not have a very good outside shot. Seems like we already got 4 or 5 of them at the forward position Boozer, Marion, Jefferson etc.
He is not even in the top 20 players in the NBA yet. Duncan, Iverson, Kobe, Shaq, Rip, Dirk, Marbury, Kidd, Jefferson, Martin, Yao, Odom, Peja, Wallace, Wallace, Tracy, Carter, Garnett, Sprewell, O'Neal, Webber.... Mr. Anthony is not even in the top 8 on the squad, Duncan, Boozer, Iverson, Marbury, James, Wade, Jefferson and Odom all are better players than Mr. Anthony. Art |

Melo has yet to play the WHOLE game, if he does he will be awesome. I challenge to name someone other than Duncan, McGrady, Kobe, Iverson or Paul Pierce who is such a THREAT with the ball in his hands. |
