Charger Fans - will Rivers sign?
It's not looking good for the Bolts' consolation prize in the Eli Manning sweepstakes. Both sides are trading words and they're nowhere near a deal. Are things going to get resolved?
|
I hope so. I haven't followed any of these negotiations but Rivers should probably take their best offer and go for it. Who is his agent? Tell me it's not the Poston's. Holdouts invariably end up with crappy careers and I like this guy and want to see him do well.

I'm sure they are trying to avoid getting burned like they did with Ryan Leaf. I'm still amazed that Leaf is fourth on the depth chart to host ESPN Classic's show "Cheap Seats."

Does anyone else see the irony in the fact that the three teams with the worst front offices are the teams with unsigned first round draft picks?
San Diego, Cincinnati, and Cleveland. No disrespect to their fans, but these teams suck every year. Is it any wonder? I mean Cleveland doesn't have anyone in their front office who has even negotiated a contract with a first round pick. And now they have to do it with the Poston's? Good Luck. From what I have read, the Chargers offer to Rivers was ridiculous. I mean really, none of the salaries make any sense but if you are going to draft a quarterback with the number four pick, you better expect to pay him. They draft a quarterback every other year any every one of them has been a bust. |
From what John Clayton said, the two sides were only $4 million or so off when San Diego cut off talks.
BTW, Chris Perry signed today with Cincinnati. |
What can Rivers do if him and the Chargers don't agree to terms ?
|
Not play.

It is hard to be a Charger fan.
I went to the Charger mini camp last month and Rivers doe throw the ball hard but he has a bit of a side arm. It looks a bit funny but his arm was stronger than Brees. I was impressed with the new field goal kicker from Iowa, can't remember his name though. The Chargers got rid of Carney a few years ago, he was one of the better kickers in the NFL at that time! |

There's no statute of limitations on player rights or anything ? Sounds pretty rough. |
There is a statute of limitation on player rights. For a drafted player, it's one year. Rivers has the right to enter next year's draft and give it another shot if he so chooses.
Although, somehow the Raiders managed to hold on to the rights to Raghib Ismail when he went to play in Canada. Maybe it's because he came back as a free agent instead of going back into the draft. If somebody could clear this up, I'd really appreciate it. |

Currently only San Diego with Rivers and New England with TE Ben Watson are hold outs. Mostly because New England is demanding a six year contract and Ben's agent won't sign for anything over 5. |
they played it so perfectly on draft day and screwed it up so badly with the contract. if this is supposed to be your franchise player you do whatever it talkes to get him into camp on time. especially with quarterbacks. no wonder why manning didn't want to play there.
