Expansion Draft

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1826536

Bobcats choose 19 players. No real "name" players like Stackhouse, Walker, or Houston picked.

I sort of question their motives, unless they think they have some sort of chance to get Kobe Bryant and want the space to get him.

Kind of upset the Cavs let Kopono go. Pavlovic just doesn't seem as good a player in return.

They have a good core of young players. I give them a couple of years to be a good team, but only if they draft Marbury's cousin and put him at point.

Okay... So the Hornets left Charlotte what, 3 years ago? And now they get a new team?

I don't get it

But now they have an owner that actually cares about the city.

Exactly.

Also, I thought it was hilarious when Bickerstaff said, "I expect 7 or 8 of these players to MAKE IT to training camp."

Do they think they are going to field a team wholey through free agency?

Yeah, but will the city care about the team? If I remember right they didn't have the best attendance.

It would help if they fielded a good team.

It will be interesting to see what they do in the off-season.

They won't be competitive their first year though, even in the east.

Funny about the Hornets though, they cry bad attendence and go to New Orleans, now with a new Charlotte team they get royally shafted and are sent to the west. They won't be able to compete for a while.

Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!"

Quick background for those who don't know the Charlotte story:

The Hornets, starting their first season, led the league in attendence for about 10-12 straight years. In the late ninties, the owner, George Shinn, started making overtures for a new arena even though the one there was only 10 years old. The city wouldn't pay for it, so Shinnbegan to actively search for a new city. That's when attnedence began to drop, expiditing the process, and the Hornets moved to New Orleans.

Since Shinn was out of the picture, Charlotte was granted a new franchise with a new arena, which is the Bobcats.

That said, they'll be lucky to win 20 games this year.

I don't care how many games they win, they will be hella fun to watch though. Some of the players on their team will shine with enough playing time (kapono, Wallace). Let it be known that I am following these guys from the start, so twenty years from now when they are a dynasty I can say "I was there from the start."

Charlotte now has Okafor to look forward to. I'd pay to go see him play in the pro's.
