A Day in the Life of the NBA

I won't post the entire stories on here, because there are several of them:

Phil Jackson Stepping Down as Lakers Coach

Quote:

Phil Jackson is stepping down as coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Jackson, one of the most successful coaches in NBA history, won't return to lead the Lakers next season.

Jackson, who won three straight championships with the team, agreed with Lakers owner Jerry Buss to end his tenure as coach, the team said in a statement.

Buss offered Jackson another position with the organization, which Jackson will decide whether to accept in the near future, the team said.
Shaq Asks Lakers for Trade

Quote:

Jerry Buss is going to break up the Lakers or the state of Colorado is going to break up 'em up, but, either way, say your goodbyes.

Because the exits are coming in droves. Phil Jackson is already gone, and, the truth is, Shaquille O'Neal wants to join him.

It looks like Buss, the Lakers' owner, has made his choice: Kobe stays, the other Hall of Famers go. In other words, he is not averse to trading Shaq and is willing to build his franchise around a narcissist who's on trial for rape, doesn't make his teammates better and is in denial over all of it.
T-Mac Won't Resign with Magic

Quote:

The Orlando Magic lost one superstar eight years ago when Shaquille O'Neal left via free agency. Now they may trade away another one.

Tracy McGrady, who can become a free agent next year, informed the Magic on Friday that he does not want to re-sign with the club, league sources told the Orlando Sentinel and Florida Today.

In order to avoid losing McGrady without compensation, the Magic are expected to explore trade options. McGrady, who has led the NBA in scoring the past two seasons, should draw heavy interest.
Here's my opinion. Trade Shaq to Orlando for McGrady. Shaq becomes a base to support the franchise until they develop some players. T-Mac replaces Kobe, gets his chance to shine in the LA spotlight, and prove if he is the better of the two players.

Kurant 06-18-2004 07:50 PM

No way Shaq allows himself to put up with losing seasons and bad talent until the franchise comes around through trades and drafts. He won't go to Orlando unless McGrady is there.

Kobe goes to jail. J/K. Kobe stays in LA.

McGrady stays in Orlando if they get Shaq. Although, if Phil stays in the NBA to coach, Shaq won't go to Orlando. He'll go where Phil goes.

If Orlando doesn't get Shaq, McGrady goes to the west, and I would say Dallas. They already said a major re-structure will go on, and they have endless amounts of talent to trade away. So does Sacramento. Both these teams obviously can't get it done with the teams they have now, both teams are looking to re-vamp.

Halx 06-18-2004 07:50 PM

well the way I see it.. if T-mac and Shaq get traded.. we also get a big man. Kobe will re-sign, make no mistake. Kobe takes the 3, Tracy takes the 2. Payton will probably return. All that's left is to acquire as many front court Memphis Grizzlies as possible.

Kurant 06-18-2004 07:54 PM

Nah, McGrady won't play with Kobe, you think it's a mess now. Now you have 2 guys who want 25 shots a game. Instead of one guy who will take 20-25 a game, at any cost.

It doesn't matter if Jordan is there. Kobe will get his 20-25 shots a game. McGrady will not be in LA.

Spartak 06-18-2004 07:56 PM

Lakers trading Shaq would be suicide, after Shaq they have no big guys.

Kurant 06-18-2004 07:56 PM

I think people are overlooking Dallas and Sacramento. New Jersey as well.

Dallas and Sac have alot of talent to trade away for a guy like McGrady. Webber should be on the trade-block. Dallas well, they have tons of people. They have too many people who want 20 shots a game.

Nah, they will get whatever they want for him. But LA won't get a big man in a Shaq/McGrady trade. If anything, Orlando should be getting somthing.

jhk451 06-19-2004 01:09 AM

here's a possible situation:

trade away shaq for tmac. yeah it's two players that love to shoot the ball, but tmac's always said he wants to be surrounded by better players.

if lakers resign kobe, great. if they don't, they can build around tmac. not that big of a deal.

now that gaping hole at the 5. sounds like a risky action, but picking up ha seung jin from s. korea in the draft wouldn't be too shabby if he doesn't flop. kid's 7-3, 305lbs., apparently has enough stamina to play an entire game, average 27 pts. and 10 boards (given it's korea, but to be able to run for 40 minutes is impressive for a man of his size) and he's only 19. by the way... he's still growing...

and a major oversight on this thread is the lack of a coach. my choice? pat riley. great conditioning coach, has a history with the lakers, and has had to deal with egos before (let's not forget showtime).

as for other bit players, re sign kareem rush and slava. both look promising. as for the others, i don't really know.

this is all very optimistic, but some of it sounds feasible. i need somebody to slap some reality into me if it's not.

Yeah, but they said similar things about Darko, and he's nowhere near starting center material.

Yao wasn't too good in his first season either.

I think this is awesome for the NBA. Get Shaq out of town and get some more balance. BYE BYE LAKERS! I think Indiana would be crazy to do it, but I could see Jermaine O'neal for Shaq.

Kurant 06-19-2004 06:28 AM

I thought Pat Riley and Buss didn't get along. Wasen't it Buss and Riley that almost went to blows in a all-star game press conference?

Halx 06-19-2004 04:18 PM

Get some more balance? Sure.. and leave Minny and Dallas stacked.

i would rahter have jermaine then shaq

for one shaq is old and is slowily getting close to retirment. jermaine is fairly young. he is the leader of the pacers.

They definitley never said Darko was ready to start in the NBA. He's a 2 or 3 year project/gamble for down the road a bit, which is why so many people think it was a bad decision.

No that's 20/20 hindsight, this is what ESPN analyst Chad Ford said before the 2003 draft (as quoted from Bill Simmons' Page 2 collumn):

Quote:

"Darko is really one of a kind. He runs the floor, handles the ball, shoots the NBA 3 and plays with his back to the basket, so you can slot him in at the 3, 4 or 5 positions. OK, a few other guys can do that too; what sets Darko apart is his toughness in the post. You have to love a guy who has the footwork to spin by an opponent but still prefers to lower a shoulder and bang. Fact is, Milicic plays in attack-mode at both ends of the floor. The more you push, the more he pushes back. While he won't be asked to carry the Pistons, he's capable of doing this earlier than you think."
Uh oh.

Nimbletoe 06-20-2004 03:22 PM

He didn't say "next year", he said "earlier than you think". Not to mention, he's an NBA analyist. They're constantly wrong. It's still too early to tell with Darko. He hasn't been given a chance.

Spartak 06-20-2004 03:32 PM

He didn't say "start" he said "carry the team", not to mention Darko can't sink a free throw let alone an "NBA 3".

Besides, with Sheed in the lineup, they don't look too bad passing on Melo eh ?

Anyway, back on topic, does anybody else think that the Lakers should get Rudy T as their new coach ? I mean the guy won championships with his "give it to Hakeem down low" approach, that could perhaps work well for the Lakers quickly if Shaq desides to say ?

buclao 06-20-2004 07:18 PM

If I were Orlando I would even consider giving up the first pick for Shaq, seeing as how the talent in the draft is kinda thin.

Then again you could use that pick to get Okafor and build him up to be Shaq like.

DDDDave 06-22-2004 04:51 AM

Where was Shaq before LA? Orlando. He jilted them for the almighty $$$ in LA and then continues to live in ORL. The fans in ORL still have a bitter taste in their mouths re:Shaq. He was a better player in ORL than in LA, he just didn't have the supporting cast. What is his cap #? 26MM or something?

ORL will not take him back. Period. The fans would only come to the games to boo Shaq. Now, a big three way with T-Mac, Shaq and ???? would not be out of the question.

Mojo_PeiPei 06-22-2004 08:18 AM

It's been said that a trade has been reached for T-Mac... The Franchise and the Cat (and others) for T-Mac. It would also appear that Steve is not to happy.

Is stevie franchise going to hold his breath and demand he be traded again?

Jadedfox 06-23-2004 05:02 AM

I'd love to see T-Mac in Indy. Sure We'd have to give up Artest, Harrington, Tinsley, Bender and someone else but it would be worth it I think.

Too bad it won't happen.
