The lakers lost simply because Kobe was awful last night. I think that is all it is. We can sit here and blame the refs, but when Kobe misses like 18 shots, we have to lay some blame on him aswell.

For all conspiracy theorists---There is no logical reason that the NBA would want Detroit to have the title---none.
If they wanted to rig it (and anytime Dick Bavetta is on the court, there's always a chance!!!), why not give it to LA?? 4 titles in 5 years makes a fun story, as does Malone and Payton finally getting a ring. Phil winning his 10th. Kobe winning despite the court hearings..... If Detroit wins, the story is what??? LA losing. How exciting is that? The Pistons are winning because they're playing harder and playing as a team. The only fun story out of it is Larry Brown finally winning a title. If Detroit holds on and wins it...congratulations---they've earned it. What does the NBA have to gain from it? Nothing. I could name 10 other teams that have a more exciting story to tell if the league wants to rig it.

Brilliant! If that happens, I will apologize to all conspiracy theorists, because without a last second Kobe shot in Game 2....this baby is a sweep. Zoom, you've hit just about the only good story left!!! During Game 7, with the Lakers up by 4.....Colorado Police serve another arrest warrant for Kobe. He flees....during the entire second half, there's a split screen of the game and Kobe driving slowly down the 405 trying to elude police. Instead of AC Cowlings....AC Green will drive the Bronco. THAT'S a finish!!!

Being in blazer country, I have heard years of complaints about how the refs are rigging things for LA to win. Seen pages of stats "proving" that thesis.
I also have heard lots and lots of defense from Laker fans. Interesting to now hear Laker fans complain about the ref-ing. Already heard 3 laker fans at work complain about it. The same people that smugly have said "there is no fix in the NBA" for years. Hope no one on this board has played both sides of arugment. But many sure have... I'm enjoying watching the Pistons for the same reason I enjoyed watching the Patriots: fun to see a team game played as a team. |

There is no fix. Watching the game last night LA was OC and couldn't control themselves, especially down the stretch.
As my roomie once said after Kobe attempted a 20 foot left handed shot ,"Who does he think he is?!" I was angered at the way Kobe played last night and I am not even a Lakers fan. What a horribly selfish arrogant player. His shot selection was garbage. You may be one of the best scorers in the league, but perhaps you should consider passing the ball rather then shooting an off balance contested fade away. Detriot is playing well though. They are doing everything pretty much the best that they can. Only thing that really irked me in game 4 was those stupid And 1's they kept giving Diesel. As someone else stated in here already, if Shaq has the ball in the paint and is moving to the hoop you better crush his ass hard or get out of the way. Go Pistons.

But, what has happened to make the Lakers, the team that has led the league in FT attempts this year, all of a sudden go to the line only 1/2 the time of their opponents. (For what it's worth, Detroit was 6th in fouls committed against them by the way). On top of that, Detroit's defense is good, but aggressive, shouldn't they be fouling the Lakers more? Aggressive defenses foul more. It doesn't make sense what's happening. For them not to be fouling must mean they are playing absolutely perfect, and that they are the greatest fucking defensive team known to man. I don't think so, the Lakers team in 2000 was better defensively in my opinion. If people want to call them a legendary defensive team, and use that as the answer to my question I have no qualms. There is no fix or conspiracy or whatever per say, but I think it is just the ineptitude of the refs, which has gotten progressively worse the last few years. That being said, the Lakers need to get their hands in their pockets, and not put Detroit in the penalty with 8 minutes to go in a quarter. That has been the norm this series and the difference.

Watch the game, man! Detroit hustles to position, cuts off access to the lane. LA sticks out a leg, an arm, an ass, grabs a jersey or an arm. Those aren't phantom fouls the refs are calling. If the Lakers want more even foul totals, they should foul the Pistons less. Time for the Lakers to quit crying and start ballin'!

Or mabye Karl Malone comes back with a robotic leg and leads the Lakers to a game 7 win. On the whole officiating thing, the Lakers may have been called for a lot of fouls, but they also committed a lot of fouls. Luke Walton playing 12 minutes and fouling out was no accident. The Lakers made a ton of mental mistakes, and their frustration showed through.

For Lakers fan whining about the refs: give me a break. As long as officiating benefits your team, it's ok. You forget how many times the Kings were sodomized by the refs in their series against the Lakers. Remember Samaki Walker's after-the-buzzer three pointer that was counted? Remember game six of the Western Conference finals two years ago? Of course not (and there are many more instances). Calls are subjective and this series is far from being an example of it at its worst.

so, a friend has instilled some confidence in me. He's hopeful and so I will be as well. Something that every Laker opponent has had for years - game pressure. We're going back to LA!!!

Gut check time!
TEAMWORK vs STAR POWER *****Round 5***** My name is Grumpy, and I was wrong. I picked the Lakers in 6 But I own my mistakes, much like the Pistons have owned the Lakers. I watched the Pistons all season, and, while I knew that they were the beast in the east, I bought into the smoke and mirrors hype about the Western Conference. I overestimated the Lakers almost as much as they overestimate themselves, and I am ashamed. But I am no Kobe! I am not more interested in my own success at the cost of the team's. I don't need to be the MVP to justify myself. A Piston championship, in however many games it takes, will thrill me! (But a win in game 5 will be extra sweet! ) GO PISTONS!!!!!

I'm kind of happy that the Spurs didn't make it to the Finals now. Then the Pistons would have made them look like shit too, and I would have been really pissed off.
Congratulations Detroit. I'm so glad Karl Malone didn't get his ring. I feel bad that Phil Jackson didn't get his tenth. Looks like I'll have a good day at work tomorrow.
