Team/Unit Names
 

To steal from el jeffe's (Halx) thought on player nicknames, I started to think about names of various teams or playing units within a team with great nicknames. I'm not talking about the actual team name, so all of you Fighting Irish, Mighty Duck, and Lugnut (Lansing minor league baseball) fans can hold off on these names. What we are looking for here is names like:


The Purple People Eaters
The Steel Curtain
The Broad Street Bullies
Phi Slamma Jamma
The Hogs
The Legion of Doom

I always liked The Bash Brothers (Canseco and Macguire, Oakland)

The Doomsday Defense

I also like it when they name a line in hockey by the initals of the players, Like the MAG Line (Modano, Arnott, Guerin).

The Orange Crush (Broncos Defense in the '70s)
The Flying Aces (Dale Earnhardt's pit crew in the '80s)
The Rainbow Warriors (jeff Gordon's pit crew in the '90s)

Devils' EGG line (Elias, Gomez, Gionta).

I love that one! Jose Canseco was one favorite player growing up


The "No Name Defense" - Miami Dolphins 72 defense
The "Amazing's" - New York Mets from 1969
"Marks Brothers" - Mark Duper Mark Clayton 80's and Early 90's Dolphins
"Thunder & Lightning" - Ron Dayne and Tiki Barber (two or three years back)
The "Dynasty" - Miami Hurricanes 83-94 and 2000-present (sorry had to throw that in there ;) )
The "Miracle on Ice" - you all know that USA hockey team..
