Could not happen to a better pitcher........Randy is the man!

djtestudo 05-18-2004 06:00 PM

Glad to see it. He deserves to have a game like this.

Zeld2.0 05-18-2004 06:20 PM

Shit those last few outs had my heart jumping as they did back when Cone and Wells threw the last perfect games.... imagine how his heart was!

Kurant 05-18-2004 06:22 PM

I'm a huge baseball fan, I come home from work, and I ordered the Baseball package on Dish Network, and watch baseball.

I have never heard Johnson speak before, but he had his post-game press-conference, and what a classy guy. Gave his team alot of props, didn't gloat it up, very humble, and bascially cared more about his team winning, and focusing on starting a road trip is a positve way then even thinking about his own status after tonight.

What a classy guy, coulden't happen to a better person.

ironchef82 05-18-2004 07:00 PM

I saw Randy Johnson pitch a game against the Braves at Turner Field a few years ago... I was so impressed by him. It was late in the 9th inning, he's still in the game, and his fastballs were still at 97-98 mph. That was nuts.

My hat's off to him on this achievement.. I was unaware before tonight that this is actually his SECOND no-hitter. He pitched one for the Mariners back in 1990. And now he's the oldest pitcher to pitch a perfect game. Wow.

Ace_O_Spades 05-18-2004 07:21 PM

He really should have some award named after him... for being so bloody awesome at his age

Averett 05-19-2004 03:17 AM

Stupid Braves

dylanmarsh 05-19-2004 05:33 AM

Yeah, the Unit is a definite Hall of Famer. 40 some years old and pitching better than ever before.

*sniff*sniff* what's that smell? ohhhh, it's the trading deadline. Pedro-Schilling-Johnson, ahhhhh, the beauty of greed. :D

matteo101 05-19-2004 05:59 AM

Kudos to Randy Johnson on that performance. Very impressive, and I wish him and Arizona goodluck this year. Arizona isn't looking to good, maybe this will boost there spirits.

losthellhound 05-19-2004 06:39 AM

Im a big Randy Johnson fan from his Jays days.. He did amazingly, not even taking into consideration how old he is and how long he has been pitching

Imagine how much more interesting baseball would be with a Randy Johnson Award.

Yeah... they give it out to the downright coolest pitcher every year... as voted by the players

perripken 05-19-2004 08:23 AM

That was awesome! The old man did it!

lol, there's no way we'd trade him. Even more important, I highly doubt that at his age, RJ would be willing to part with his family in such a way. He's a 10/5 player to he has automatic trade veto rights. He's also the DBacks first shot at having one of their own in the HOF. Although there's no doubt that he's a first ballot no-brainer HOF player, there's still the question of whether they'd put him in there as a Mariner or a DBack. His accomplishments in AZ are way beyond what he did in Seattle, but he did spend more time there.

It was such an amazing game. I listened to the first 7 on the radio and finally got to see the last 2 while waiting for my to-go order to be ready. After the 6th, I was thinking it and after the 8th I knew it was going to happen. The Braves fans showed their class by rallying behind it and chanting his name after it was over.

For what it's worth, I'd like to give a big "FUCK YOU" to all the "experts" at espn and all the other sports news guys who said RJ was done.

This was just what my team needs. They've been back and forth between amazing pitching, fielding, and hitting to looking like little leaguers who fuck up routine plays, blow saves, struggle to hit, and have total meltdowns. Richie will be back soon, Fossum just joined the rotation, and Shea is finally hitting again (maybe we can trade him to Atl or Ana).

Peetster 05-19-2004 09:04 AM

Awesome! Last perfect game was Cy Young, and there's an award named for him!

You're joking right?

A perfect game has been pitched 13 times since Cy Young threw one in 1904. These gems include recent performances by Dennis Martinez (1991), Kenny Rogers (1994), David Wells (1998), and David Cone (1999).

Never say never with great players playing on crappy teams. Johnson may want to join Curt in Beantown and then retire. With the way the D-Backs have been playing lately (an Expo sweep, etc), I think Brenly is gonna get fired and more payroll will be cut. I doubt they would trade Shea, but with Tracy coming up and playing well, who knows. :hmm:

i was wondering the same thing....Expos maybe? thats who he came up with, and then was traded to the Mariners....but the Jays, i'm thinking not.

perripken 05-19-2004 04:44 PM

Yes, was the Expo's. He was drafted by them, spent 1988 and part of 1989 with them. Was traded to Seattle in 1989 and spent the next 9 seasons with them. Was traded to Houston in 1998, spent one year with them. In 1999 he was traded to Arizona where he's been since.

Spartak 05-19-2004 11:09 PM

Damn, and here was me thinking he was washed up.

Awesome performance.

WarWagon 05-19-2004 11:25 PM

Johnson is the fucking man.

kutulu 05-20-2004 04:07 PM

Arizona is not going to trade Randy Johnson:

Colangelo squelches Johnson trade rumors

By Scott Bordow, Tribune

So much for those Randy Johnson trade rumors.
Diamondbacks chairman Jerry Colangelo said Wednesday he wants Johnson to retire as a Diamondback.

“I have no intention of trading Randy Johnson,” Colangelo said. “I certainly hope he has no interest of going anywhere.”

A potential Johnson deal had become water-cooler conversation recently. There was speculation in New York that the Yankees would pursue Johnson and that the Diamondbacks might be tempted to trade the Big Unit and his $33 million contract because of their perceived financial woes.

Johnson has a no-trade clause in his contract and would have to approve any deal. “The thing is, he's not saying that, we're not saying that,” Colangelo said. “Who is saying that? The media and fans. None of that matters.”
They might trade away Finly, Hillenbrand, or Bautista but not the Unit.

WarWagon 05-20-2004 04:38 PM

Gee, the Yankees interested in tacking on a $33 mil player? What are the odds...

So, I hear they are thinking of coming out with a new million dollar bill featuring Steinbrenner's face...

Funniest moment in baseball ever: Randy Johnson throwing 100 mph pill BEHIND John Kruk's head at the 1992 All Star game.

actually he was traded half way through the season to houston....i think just after the all star break. he was having an off year because of his back and his ERA was pretty fucking high. he was 6-7 with the mariners or something like that. he then went on to a 10-1 record with houston and had an amazing ERA below 2 or something like that. and that offseason he was signed by the D-backs for a shitload of money
