best sports song/terrace chant?
What is your favorite terrace chant/song you sing at a sporting event?
In honor of the first division champions, and my team, Norwich City :) ... Here is my favorite, and also this is supposed to be the oldest football song that is still sung by fans. One of the best moments of my life was at the play off final two years ago when Norwich lost to Birmingham, and hearing 35,000 other Norwich fans singing this... Kick it off Throw it in Have a little scrimage Keep it low Splendid rush Bravo! Win or Die! On the ball City... Never mind the danger! Here's your chance Now you've scored! Hurrah! City!!! City!!! City!!! City!!! |
I'll give you two of my favorites, which I learned going to Rangers games as a kid with my dad.
BEAT YOUR WIFE POTVIN, BEAT YOUR WIFE! (Insert intro whistling here) POTVIN SUCKS! Nothing fancy, but to the point as most fans at the garden are. |
The "Hey, you SUCK" chant that goes at Maryland games when the band plays "Rock & Roll, Part 2". Nice to hear 12,000 people tell Duke that they suck :D

We - are - the - Geordies
The Geordie Boot Boys And we are mental And we are mad We are the loyalest Football supporters That the wooooorld has eeeever had. The tune for this classic toon croon: 'You are My Sunshine' |
Nice one castex, I was wailing that tune just yesterday.
The Blaydon Races is my all time favorite: Oh me lads, you should've seen us gannin Passing the folks along the road Just as they were standin' All the lads and lasses there All wi' smilin' faces Gannin along the Scotswood Roooooooooooooad To see the Blaydon races Gets the hairs standing up on my neck when 50,000+ drunken Geordies sing along. |
Tune: 'Any Old Iron'
Liam O'Brien, Andy O'Brien; Any Any Any O'Brien, Who put the ball in the Mackems' net? O'Brien O'Brien. The Hokey Kokey: You put your left foot in Your left foot out In-out-in-out, shake it all about you do the Ameobi and you turn around Thats what its all about! Oh! Shola Ameobi Oh! Shola Ameobi Oh! Shola Ameobi Knees bent, arms Stretched Ra! Ra! Ra! Not forgetting the old 'Let's all do the Conga': We've got Mirandinha, He's not from Argentina, He's from Brazil, He's Fooking Brill! Right, I'll shut up:D |
Alreet Woody, son? Too bad about last week - the worst bit was having to watch it in French...
|
Classic Toon Chants from yesteryear castex.
Re: Fucking Marseille:- It hurt so bad, when that fire started on the edge of the pitch I was praying for the game to be called off. I believe that was our only hope. I'm sorry you had to watch the French coverage but at least you didn't have to suffer the TV_presenting_phenomenon that is John Barnes. Typical John Barnes quote: "abadabadabab abadabababa abadab" |
"FIGHT FIERCELY, HARVARD!"
T. LEHRER '47 Fight fiercely, Harvard! Fight, fight, fight! Demonstrate to them our skill. Albeit they possess the might, Nonetheless we have the will. How we shall celebrate our victory? We shall invite the whole team Up for tea! How jolly! Hurl that spheroid down the field And fight! Fight! Fight! Fight fiercely, Harvard! Fight, fight, fight! Impress them with our prowess, do. Oh, fellows, do not let the Crimson down;, Be of stout heart, and true. Fight for Harvard's glorious name! Won't it be peachy if we Win the game? Oh goody! Let's try not to injure them, But fight! Fight! Fight! |
Potvin sucks so bad he's in the Hall of Fame with four Stanley Cup rings and three Norris trophies. Most Ranger fans nowadays don't even know the origin of that chant, sad.
As an Isles fan I love hearing that chant b/c it usually means the Rangers are losing and the fans are crying again about a guy that hasn't played in over 15 years. |
The Te Rauparaha Haka (The Maori War Dance performed by the New Zealand All Blacks)
Ringa pakia Uma tiraha Turi whatia Hope whai ake Waewae takahia kia kino Ka Mate! Ka Mate! Ka Ora! Ka Mate! Ka Mate! Ka Ora! Tenei te ta ngata puhuru huru Nana i tiki mai Whakawhiti te ra A upane ka upane! A upane kaupane whiti te ra! Hi!! It is a truly awesome sight to watch the All Blacks do this, Kees Meeuws and King Carlos have the best versions of the Haka in my opinion. Hell, it's even made a little part of a new Gatorade commercial here in the States. |
