Duke/Coach K slipping a bit?
So Duke has come up empty twice against Jim Calhoun and the Huskies in big games. Coach K took some heat for that as the first chink in his untarnished armor. Let's be realistic now and just stipulate right off the bat that Coach K and Duke are arguably the best college basketball coach and program now. He and the program now are being mentioned with Wooden and UCLA comparatively. Anyway is Coach K slipping a bit nonetheless from being on top so long? Some of his players recently started leaving early (which was unheard of) and now Livingston (a huge Duke prospect) is opting for the draft before even stepping foot on Coach K Court. I'm interested in your thoughts/insights.

I wish. Duke reloads every year. I've been hoping the NBA defections bring them down for years now, and been disappointed every time. They'll always pull in the best recruits that don't go pro immediately, and they also seem to have a knack for picking up guys who are amazing college players with solid but not out-of-this-world NBA prospects who will stick around for 3 or 4 years (i.e. Battier, Reddick, Dunleavey, etc.)

I don't think so. He has built the program, and kids want to go there. The ultimate lure of the all mighty dollar is what is drawing some of the guys away, but there is so much talent that he draws on. All programs have a few ups and downs, Duke is in a rut, not a down though.

All this shows is that even Duke can get burned now and then by the NBA, which is the risk you take in recruiting top players.
This year they may not be as good as last year, due to lacking a true PG and the sheer amount of competition in the conference, but they'll keep getting major recruits, and he'll keep most of his kids until graduation, and they'll be back on top to be beaten soundly by Maryland, like it should be

BURST INTO FLAMES BURST INTO FLAMES
Coach K is a c*cksucker. Just had to get it out. Now onto topic. Yes he is slipping. I think prospects will start to see that he does not get players ready for successful NBA carrers. His lobbying the refs all day long and spending 90% of practice time coaching "taking the charge" otherwise known as the durham dive, does not help players. He might have the all time wheelchair basketball team though with Bobby Hurley, J Williams and Grant Hill. So many Duke NBA Busts, so little time. I love watching Shane Jerkkiea sit the bench as a high 1st round pick. DB

I'm a huge Duke fan and have been for over a decade. I'm from MD and take a huge raft of s..t from my mates about being a Duke fan 1st and a Terp fan 2nd. I've heard a lot of Duke haters and jabs directed at them but Mondak I really got a kick out of your post. It was hilarious and I think echoes the sentiments of most Duke-haters out there. Well done.
