Burke is out
http://nhl.com/onthefly/news/2004/05/212506.html
What a retarded move... Like It's HIS fault the Canucks couldn't seal the deal in the playoffs in game 7 this is going to severely stunt the Canucks organization unless they (by some miracle) get a new GM who is BETTER I guess making the playoffs four consecutive years, and being one of the few teams in the NHL to get a PROFIT weren't enough. GAHHHHHHHHHH |
Well, it's not unexpected. I agree he did a great job as GM, but when the hammer comes down these days it usually the GM/Coach who get nailed first.
|
yeah, and i guess since Crawford had a contract already....
But honestly... this is just a dumb dumb dumb move |
not always a fan of what burke had to say, but gee the guy make vancouver into a contented. with a small payroll and little talent (in my eyes) they have become a model franchise. stupid move, the guy is passionate about his team, always stands up for his players and is accountable to the media. my guess management will regret the after the backlash you can feel building in vancouver.

not ONE canuck fan i've talked to is happy about this
his approval rating in recent polls was almost 80% |
We may not have gotten past the first round, but we shocked the league coming back and winning the division. Burke has done nothing but good things for the Canucks, and I sure as hell hope that the new GM, will be able to do as good a job as Burke.
|
Seriously, the canucks have one of the best young teams in the league, largely thanks to Burke. Perhaps they felt they didn't need his services anymore and he was gonna be too expensive to keep around.
As far as the backlash, I think most fans will forget it by the time next season starts up. Most people just don't care that much about the GM. |
I think more people will care about the GM if the Canucks do poorly next year due to poor signing decisions or draft choices by the new GM
Time will tell maximusveritas |
It's like John Muckler said after Jacques Martin was fired for not bringing the Senators out of the first round. The problem wasn't with the coach, the problem was in the dressing room. Unfortunately, you can't fire 29 people, so someone has to take the fall. In Vancouver's case, that someone was Brian Burke.
